Specialist Support Assistants

A Specialist Provision in Lancaster (LA2) that caters for secondary aged pupils (11-16 years old) are looking to recruit up to four additional Specialist Support Assistants to provide general and 1:1 support. This provision caters for pupils with SEMH and/or ASC and is easily accessible from the A6, it is not far from Garstang. Members of the Senior Leadership Team have said they would like to consider individuals for the roles with any relevant experience whether it be personal, within care, within the prison service, or within education.

The Provision

This Provision provides young people with an educational experience that will not only extend their academic and vocational social skills and abilities, but will also promote personal growth and help to build self-esteem. With this approach, the school hope to inspire the pupils to achieve their full potential, eventually leaving school with the determination to make a positive contribution to society. The school focuses on the individual needs for each child therefore they require individuals who are able to differentiate their approach to optimise learning for each child. The roles are support children in different classes, one is with the lower school and the other would be working in the upper school.

The Roles

This Provision are looking to secure patient and resilient individuals who ideally have experience supporting/ working with those who have special educational needs and can display challenging behaviours. This experience does not need to be in an educational setting, this could be personal experience. These roles will be required on a full-time basis (8.30am-2.30pm/3.00pm) with the view to start as soon as possible. You will be expected long-term basis within school therefore depending on your availability we may have a role for you!

Within these roles, you will be providing general and/or 1:1 support for specific pupils. You will be required to build a good rapport with the individual and adapt to the individualised timetable. You will need to be flexible as each day can differ in the structure/ behaviour of the pupil. To be successful you will need to be proactive and motivated by supporting pupils who can display challenging behaviour.

* SEN Provision on the outskirts of Lancaster (LA2 - Secondary)
* Up to four full-time roles (Monday-Friday, 8.30am-2.30pm/3.00pm)
* School experience is not essential
* Experience supporting children or young adults with SEMH/ASC is desirable
* Start date: As soon as possible
* End date: July 2022 - with a view to continue in the next academic year
