Opportunities have arisen for a Security Administrator role as part of an ongoing transformation programme working within the IT department security and operations team. You will carry out and take a leading role on all security tasks required for server lifecycles and maintain a robust patch management regime for computer services’ infrastructure. This would also involve monitoring and tracking of patching.

*Please note the successful candidate may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

If you are offered a position, you will be required to undertake and successfully complete a BS7858 security screening check.

Main Responsibilities
Be responsible for security of system infrastructure, hierarchy, interfaces and technical documentation.
Assist in the maintenance of the upgrade program and take ownership of technical issues, liaising with system owners and 3rd parties as necessary.
Applying patches to Computer Services’ infrastructure, including, but not limited to, updates for server, storage and appliance firmware, hypervisors, operating systems, databases and middleware.
Working closely with technology team Technical Architects and SMEs to ensure process and system specific handover documents are fit for purpose.
Work with the Cyber Security team and technology team Technical Architects to prioritise patching demands and/or identify existing or potential mitigations.
Ensure completion of daily security checks with issues investigated and escalated to Cyber Security and/or the relevant technology team Technical Architect or SME.
Work with technology team Technical Architects and SMEs to assist the Security and Operations Manager with audit information gathering processes.
Maintain a relationship with system owners, agreeing and maintaining test plans and patching windows.
Ensure that data stored in the Enterprise Architecture platform is current (Software levels, patching windows, etc.)
Coordinate tests of patching before promotion into production, ensuring adherence to the Change Management policy.
Identify trends in patching failures, feeding observations back to the relevant technology teams.
Reporting to Security and Operations Manager

The Ideal Candidate
Experience in IT systems administration or relevant IT qualification.
Thorough understanding of server based systems/technologies, including client/server and multi-tier architectures.
Good understanding of application/middleware/database layers.
Technical knowledge or experience of IT security patching.
Good general knowledge of server technologies, Command Line tooling and scripting using tools such as PowerShell and Python would be an advantage.
Good knowledge of the relationship between an IT department and the User community.
Strong analytical skills as well as good interpersonal skills, self-confidence and personal drive.
