An exciting opportunity has arisen to support The Abbeyfield Society with the ongoing effective management of Health and Safety within the organisation. This post holder will work as a Health and Safety Advisor for the organisation and would sit within the central Health and Safety Team.

The Health and Safety Team provides specialist advice and assistance on all areas of Health, Safety, Fire and Environmental matters to a wide range of staff, including directors, senior management, property teams and our widespread operational teams based in care homes and sheltered housing properties. We also act in an advisory capacity for over 100 hundred independent Abbeyfield Member Societies.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual with experience of Health and Safety in an advisory capacity, ideally in a Care / Housing Environment or within a multi-site organisation, to join us and assist in the development and improvement of our health and safety management systems. This is a new role within the team, and is therefore a fixed term contract, with the possibility of the role being made permanent after one year. Ideally the post holder should be in located the Midlands or in the South of England, however, we will consider suitable candidates located in other parts of England as we actively encourage flexible working. The role will require some visits to our Head Office in St Albans and to our sites across England to support managers and the wider Membership Societies in meeting their statutory responsibilities.

The role will also involve development of polices, procedures and guidance, an auditing function, incident investigation and production of concise reports for wider consideration. You must be a conscientious worker, and be able to work autonomously as well as part of a wider team. Experience of delivering health and safety training is a distinct advantage. We are looking for a candidate with at least a NEBOSH General Certificate qualification and evidence of CPD with relevant professional body.

A full UK driving licence and your own vehicle insured for business use is required for this post; however, reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.
