An opportunity is available for a Tree Data Analyst, the location of the role can be flexible within one of our depots and will be agreed with the successful candidate.      

NGED’s tree and vegetation management program employs utility arboriculture contractors to undertake vegetation management adjacent to its overhead network at all voltages from LV to 132kV.  This program is transitioning to a new model, whereby LiDAR data is utilised to produce 3D and clearance data, this data together with photographic imagery is then analysed and processed into work tasks and work instructions for NGED’s tree contractors, who then undertake landowner consenting and cutting.

As part of our hybrid working approach this role offers a mix of office and home working. Hybrid working can only be considered once your initial training is complete and subject to business need.

Main ResponsibilitiesReporting to NGED’s Tree Compliance Manager, the Tree Data Analyst will be responsible for interpreting, analysing and processing LiDAR data, to a standard where it is ready for issue by the local NGED offices.   

This will include:


Tree risk and clearance assessments in line with ENA TS 43-8 and NGED policies
Identification of tree species, age-class and condition
Processing and preparing the tree work that is required to achieve ESQCR compliance 

The Ideal CandidateYou will have a Level 2 or higher in NQF arboriculture or a related subject and NPTC UA units 1, 5.1 & 5.2 (or equivalent new units) or LANTRA equivalents.  Experience in utility arboriculture and tree identification skills along with excellent knowledge of tree pathology, wood decay fungi and pests & diseases.  

A thorough understanding of VTA (Visual Tree Assessment), familiarity in working with IT systems with a clear and consistent focus on safety, quality and customer service are also essential to be successful in the role. You will need to be mobile throughout the area therefore a full and valid driving licence is required.

Although not essential, it would be beneficial if the successful candidate had the following qualifications/experience:


Level 3 or higher NQF in arboriculture or related subject
LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection
Competency at LV & HV level
Previous experience of working with external tree contractors
Previous experience of ground and aerial tree cutting operations


Evidence of your qualification certificates will be required prior to appointment.
