Coventry Interpretation and Translation Unit (CITU)
Coventry Interpretation and Translation Unit (CITU) supports professionals by providing a confidential and impartial high-quality interpretation and translation service to people whose first language is not English or who have a sensory impairment.
CITU provides interpretation and translation services in several languages. All interpreters follow the Coventry City Council’s policies and procedures and are committed to their own Code of Practice, which includes maintaining confidentiality of service users at all times. CITU Interpreters have the necessary skills and experience to interpret in a variety of settings such as Case Conferences, LAC reviews, Child in Need meetings, Investigations, Home Visits, Meetings and Trainings sessions.
CITU also facilitates telephone and sign language interpreting which is available through external agencies

What is the job role?Casual Interpreters/Translators
Coventry Interpretation and Translation Unit (CITU) maintains a casual register of people with linguistic skills to support service users whose first language is not English.
If you are fluent in Amharic, Dinka, Garre, Italian, Nuer, Oromo, Pashto, Polish, Portuguese, Sudanese, Slovak/Czech, Tigrinya or Vietnamese languages, both written and verbal, have a good command of English and are available for face to face appointments during office hours to work on casual basis then you are invited to apply to join the Sessional Register of Interpreters/Translators.
You will be paid at £13.47 per hour plus travel time. Qualified Interpreters will be paid at a higher rate of £14.36.
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Who are we looking for?Candidates should possess a minimum degree level or equivalent qualification, the DPSI (Diploma in Public Service Interpreting) is desirable, or an equivalent qualification will be given preference.
Please only apply if you are available for face to face appointments within Coventry area. We will not pay extra travel payment if you live outside Coventry.
