Job Title: Waste & Recycling FLT OperativeLocation: HullContract: Fixed Term 12 months – Full Time 36 hours per weekWorking Pattern: Alternating weekly shifts:Week 1: Monday to Friday 5:00am–1:00pmWeek 2: Monday to Friday 2:00pm–10:00pmRate of Pay: £13.45 per hourAbout the RoleSodexo is looking for a reliable and safety-focused Waste, Recycling & Forklift Truck Operative to join our team at the Smith & Nephew site in Hull.This is a practical, physically active role responsible for the safe collection, movement and processing of waste and recyclable materials across the site. You'll operate a counterbalance forklift truck, support our recycling targets and ensure waste is handled safely and in line with environmental and Health & Safety requirements.The role involves working early and late shifts,with occasional short notice shift changes to support the needs of the operation.Key ResponsibilitiesCollect and remove waste from designated areas across the siteOperate a counterbalance forklift truck, including driving on public highways as part of your dutiesManually move, sort and process waste and recyclable materialsOperate balers and compactors safelySupport the safe handling, storage and removal of hazardous wasteComplete waste transfer notes and other compliance documentation accurately and on timeFollow all Safe Systems of Work, SOPs, COSHH and Health & Safety proceduresWear required PPE, including hi-vis clothing and safety footwearSupport the site's recycling and zero-to-landfill objectivesAssist with snow and ice clearance when requiredReport hazards, issues and customer concerns promptly to managementWhat We’re Looking ForA current, full UK driving licence – essential as the forklift is driven on public highwaysA current Counterbalance Forklift Truck (FLT) licencePrevious experience working within a waste or recycling environmentA strong Health & Safety mindset and commitment to safe working practicesGood understanding of manual handling and the correct use of PPEReliable, punctual and comfortable carrying out physically demanding workAble to work independently and as part of a teamOrganised and methodical with the ability to identify, resolve and escalate issuesGood communication skills and a professional approachFlexibility to work early and late shift patternsExperience or training in COSHH, balers, compactors, hazardous waste or dangerous goods would be beneficial.
