Cats Protection Paws Protect service provides a bespoke pet fostering service dealing directly with clients and other agencies in SE England. (London, Hertfordshire, Essex, Surrey, Sussex & Kent)

The Cats Protection Paws Protect pet fostering service is for anyone fleeing domestic abuse from or to our covered areas. However, the majority of our referrals come from women fleeing domestic abuse via women-only services. The service places cats into volunteer foster homes on a temporary basis until their owners are able to have them back.

We are looking to recruit a self-motivated and capable Paws Protect Coordinator on a fixed term contract, with the proven ability to multi-task and work unsupervised, and to manage and support our current service and expansion plan. The role involves developing the service, providing and updating processes and marketing materials, and preparing reports, analysing data and tracking budget expenditure. It also includes overseeing and assessing the placement of cats onto the service, providing advice and support to our volunteer foster carers and working with other stakeholders such as pet owners, domestic abuse support services and internal Cats Protection staff and other agencies. Whilst there is some cat handling involved, the role will also include extensive contact with people as well as daily administration, and a requirement to represent Cats Protection at Stakeholder meetings and developing Stakeholder relationships. Part of this role will involve transporting cats across London and the Home Counties, so candidates should have a full, clean, manual UK driving licence and experience of driving as part of a previous role.

We are looking for candidates with good people skills and experience of working in a public facing role. In addition, good administrative skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office are required. An understanding of the problems experienced by families fleeing domestic abuse with pets are also required. Experience of working in the animal welfare sector and of being able to provide basic cat welfare and behaviour advice would be highly desirable.

Due to the nature of this role, this post is for women only and is exempt under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010.
