JOB TITLE: Boarding House parent

SALARY & BENEFITS: £19,446 + accommodation provided

WORKING HOURS: Full time role over 42 weeks of the year

THE COMPANY: We are currently working with an 'Outstanding' boarding school judged by Ofsted! They are a vibrant, caring and purposeful boarding house with a busy weekend programme. The 141 boarders who live on site are a mixture of domestic and international students. They are now seeking a Female Boarding House Parent to join the Girls Boarding house in Milnthorpe, Cumbria.

THE ROLE: As the Boarding Houseparent you will support the Head of Boarding in managing the operational aspects of the Boarding House. You will undertake all of the responsibilities as Houseparent, caring for the health and welfare of boarders.


Key Responsibilities for the Boarding Houseparent role to include:-

- Maintaining a visual presence while on duty with the boarders. Responding pro-actively to the needs of boarders and maintaining a purposeful atmosphere
- To undertake regular supervisory duties – evening, pre-school and weekends
- To supervise the boarders’ daily routine and to deal with any general matters of behaviour to ensure a happy, purposeful atmosphere in the House
- To act as a personal tutor to a group of boarding students, to monitor closely their personal development and organisation, including money management and study skills, to offer general personal support
- To organise and actively lead a programme of activities, in the evenings and at weekends, in-line with the roster of duties, to give boarders a range of enjoyable and instructive experiences
- To be responsible for locking up any buildings used by the boarding students, at the end of each day to ensure effective site security
- To undertake general medical care as and when is required when on duty
- Where Matron is unavailable, the Houseparent is to be on call/pager, as per rota
- Conduct a variety of duties to include morning wake up, roll call, general house support, trips and excursions etc
- Plus additional duties as per full job description

THE CANDIDATE: The successful candidate will be a self motivated and enthusiastic individual with personal authority and confidence in working with young people in a non-confrontational way. You will have a commitment to provision of good quality care to students in the boarding house. It is advantageous that you have experience working in a residential setting or having specific qualification working in a residential, caring, youth work or secondary school setting.

Key experience essential for the role of the Boarding Houseparent :-

- Qualification at level 3 or equivalent
- Willing to live in the accommodation provided
- Full UK Driving Licence & the willingness to drive a mini bus
- Current First Aid certificate or the willingness to gain certificate upon appointment
- Willing to complete a compulsory DBS check upon employment
