£100 to £110k + bonus + benefits

My client, one of the UK`s largest media publishers are looking for a talented Head of UX and Design to join and help grow their vibrant team.

They have an award-winning digital portfolio comprising of more than 60 news titles, ranging from national publications such as Mirror Online and large regional publications such as Manchester Evening News to smaller county, city and specialist titles. They are experiencing phenomenal online growth, and the acquisition of Local World in 2015 has strengthened their presence in the local markets. With close to 140m monthly unique users across our digital portfolio, they`re well on their way to becoming the dominant local player online in the UK.

Job Introduction
An exciting opportunity for a Head of Design and UX to join a leading UK publisher and play a key role in shaping all of their digital products. This person should have a passion for mentoring and growing a team who create the best-in-class user experiences. You will set design standards across a portfolio of products and ensure our small team of UI / UX designers and researchers produce high-quality, engaging, on brand and consistently high quality output.

Role Responsibility
Managing and developing a team of UX/UI designers and researchers.
Setting clear goals, managing resources accordingly, ensuring that the team can meet the demands of their respective product roadmaps and mentoring team members towards growth and success.
Engage the UX team and the greater product organisation by being a champion of design best practice and setting the user experience strategy.
Leading, mentoring and growing the team in their development and growth as designers, researchers and UX engineers.
Supervise and support the creation of user flows, wireframes, information architecture, interface mockups and final UI designs which synthesize user data and research.
Work collaboratively with stakeholders, product managers and development teams to iterate existing products and design and build new functionality.
Champion the user experience for all users, including advertisers as well as end users by ensuring our teams follow a user-centred, iterative design process.
Play a key part in high-profile, business critical projects.
Stay up-to-date with market trends in digital.

The Ideal Candidate
You are an enabler of people and a person who loves to see your team grow and succeed.
You believe design is about problem solving, not pure aesthetics.
Expert understanding of interaction, usability and visual design principles and the tools used to produce these (Sketch, Photoshop etc).
Good understanding of HTML/CSS and responsive design.
Thorough knowledge of UX research methods (quantitative and qualitative) and how best to apply them within the development process.
Able to work well with product managers, developers and testers in small project teams using agile development methodologies.
Able to effectively manage expectations of stakeholders while advocating for the user.
Able to communicate effectively at all levels, collaborate to solve problems, present design and sell solutions, and keep colleagues informed.
Excellent leadership and UX evangelism with a proven ability to work successfully with Product and Engineering.
A compelling portfolio, with the ability to describe the thinking behind design decisions.
