Senior Marine Structural Design Engineer

Applies Naval Architectural and structural design knowledge in accordance with applicable regulatory body rules, regulations, and industry standards to develop structural analyses and solutions for the company’s ongoing newbuild contracts:

* Structural design, structural modifications, scantling development and seat/foundation design in accordance with appropriate rules or design standards.
* Design of superstructure, mast, and local support structure to withstand primary and secondary loads.
* Initiate, understand, supervise, distribute and oversee structural analysis, development, appraisal and modification of ship structures
* Undertake structural design calculations and drawings to class requirements in support of vessel design and modifications
* Create, review and approve structural design proposals
* Design integration, coordinating inputs from various naval architectural and other engineering disciplines, such as marine engineering, into balanced, closed solution designs.
* Support the development of standard technical processes and procedures
* Review all engineering deliverables for quality, approving them for production
* Support the preparation of class submittals to LR, MCA and other regulatory bodies
* Provide technical support to other shipyard functions if required, including launching, berthing, production processes, lifting and turning, temporary access, openings and supports, IT, etc
* Production support through build, including management of change process
* Ensure that all work is performed, checked and approved in accordance with the company’s Quality Management System


* A minimum 5 years’ experience in a shipyard or similar field activity where structural design for fabrication was undertaken.
* Demonstrable leadership experience in ship orientated structural projects
* Familiarity with knowledge of specialist software for structural and FEM analysis
* A solid Engineering background, with demonstrable knowledge of vessels’ structure, machinery and systems enabling effective technical solutions to be developed and the ability to formulate the methods to be used in the engineering analysis
* Knowledge of Classification Society and IMO rules and regulations
* Ability to apply regulatory body rules, ship specifications, and other technical guidance to develop conforming designs and modifications to ships and craft.
