Our client who is an iconic luxury sports car manufacturer, is currently recruiting for the following role:

Job Purpose
Design & develop new and existing vehicle power management requirements

Key Responsibilities and Tasks
• Manage the design of vehicle power management systems to ensure robust electrical power delivery for all electrical systems, supporting the vehicle development timing.
• Ensure that all PMST leaders provide the required data to support the system power management requirements.
o Power consumption
o Current characteristics
o Nominal operating current.
o Key off load
• Alternator specification & package
o Load balance simulation via mapping of electrical consumers
o Load balance testing
o Electrical requirements of alternator
o Environmental requirements of alternator
o Appropriate package within the engine assembly
o Harness requirements for the alternator
o Support development of charge strategies and charging profiles
• Battery
o Understand the battery specification and requirements
o Specify the appropriate battery for each application
o Understanding of Lithium chassis batteries
o Calculate battery life using electrical consumer/Key off load data
o Implement appropriate battery protection
o Characterise vehicle cranking profiles on car
o Test cranking profiles using simulation tools on breadboards
• Specify appropriate DC/DC convertors for each vehicle application.
• Understand charging technologies
• Understand Traction battery technology, for both EV and Hybrid vehicles
• Conduct and document vehicle benchmarking.
• Component Releasing and Change Control management
• Support sub-system DFMEA reviews.
• Control of Design Verification Plans and Sign off Report for owned components.
• Coordinate and support vehicle testing for all owned components.
• Support vehicle builds and provide problem solving (8D' process).
• Support cost and weight down initiatives
• Define future technology strategy and implementation plans

Qualifications and Experience
• Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
• Experience gained within automotive electrical design and development.
• Extensive knowledge of battery technology and battery requirements
• Extensive knowledge of Alternator technology and associated requirements
• Good experience and knowledge of vehicle electrical systems, especially DC/DC converters and battery protection systems.
• Experience of battery load balance requirements.
• Experience of project management.
• Project managed battery systems successfully into production.
• Working knowledge of relevant regulations and approvals
• Understanding of electric vehicles & traction battery technology & requirements
• Must be able to use electrical test equipment.
• Ability to support and input at FMEA reviews.
• Ability to support prototype builds.
• Manage a large workload in a high-pressure environment.
• Ability to analyse test data from supplier testing and work to timely solutions when required.
• Must have good report writing skills.
• Must be proactive and trust their initiative using minimum supervision to produce practical solutions.

Location: Warwickshire

Due to the significant growth our client has experienced in recent years it now benefits from being a true multi-site organisation, and as such this role could be based at a number of sites, including Warwickshire, Wellesbourne and Milton Keynes.
