Please Note: This is a 3 month contract, and a Basic DBS certificate, valid within 12 months, is required. Purpose: The post holder takes telephone enquiries for Council Tax and Benefits, and is involved in a variety of Council Tax collection and administration tasks. They provide a high level of customer service whilst maximising Council Tax collection. Duties: Provide a high quality telephone service for Council Tax and Benefits. The post holder is expected to deal with a wide range of calls in response to the issue of Council Tax bills, reminders and summonses, general administrative enquiries, including giving advice regarding payments, moving house, discounts, exemptions and disregards, enquiries about progress with Benefit claims, both Housing Benefit and Local Council Tax Support, calls in response to the issue of benefits notifications and letters, and outgoing telephone calls to recover unpaid Council Tax. The post holder records the details of their telephone conversation and makes relevant amendments to Council Tax accounts where appropriate Maintain accurate records and respond to written enquiries. This includes, deciding on and awarding or removing entitlement to Council Tax discounts, exemptions and disregards, updating computer records for a variety of reasons including Council Tax moves, discounts and exemptions and recovery processes, and Carrying out more specific tasks such as processing refunds and direct debit recalls, or quality checking bills prior to dispatch. Provide a high level of customer service to all customers, balancing this with a need to maximise collection. The post holder will deal with enquiries made in writing, by telephone or in person, answer calls promptly and politely, be friendly and approachable, be helpful and courteous, explain decisions clearly, handle all telephone enquiries, only passing them to someone else if they reach an impasse or the customer requests it, deliver, and stay firm, on what the customer may perceive to be "bad news". Support colleagues to provide high levels of customer service and collection.
