Art and Design Department

The area provides wide-ranging vocational and academic programmes in Design and Creative Arts from L1-5 for approximately 230 full time students.  Students are able to study a wide range of artistic media including visual art, graphics, photography and textiles through the input of expert practitioners and teachers.

The area aims to be a centre of artistic excellence within the wider community and to positively impact the academic, vocational and artistic development of students of all ages.  The bespoke facilities in the Northlight Centre are sector-leading, supporting specialisms in photography, textiles, fashion, graphics and fine art.

The Role

As a Lecturer in Art and Design, you will be teaching across all levels, from Level one to Higher Education students throughout the college.  As a member of the Art and Design department, you will be responsible for delivering practical, theoretical and contextual teaching in Fine Art practice and theory across a range of levels.  You will drive forward course curriculum and content as well as continuing to develop links with industry for experiential learning.

As a good team worker, you will be flexible in your approach to departmental duties and also be able to plan and deliver teaching sessions with independence. The post holder will be conversant with the paperwork and record keeping associated with post 16 learning environments.

You may also act as a personal tutor to students and therefore must be capable of building great working relationships. Organisational skills are key for this role as you will need to prepare schemes of work, lesson plans and assessment schedules.

 

Key responsibilities, skills and attitudes


Contextual knowledge of contemporary and historical design and practice
Knowledge of current evidence- based practice in field of expertise
Knowledge of issues relating to equal opportunities
Experience of teaching students post-16 education or experience teaching Key Stage 4 onwards in a school context
Experience as a personal tutor supporting pastoral care
Graduate degree in a relevant subject area
Teaching Qualification (desired)
Experience in facilitating learning to students in higher education
Excellent communication skills
Flexible and adaptable attitude to working with students of all ages
