- Provide technical support to the early stage development of new drug products
- Developing and guiding formulation development that meets specific clinical and regulatory requirements
- To assist the team leader in managing formulation development projects and in mentoring junior team members

Key Responsibilities

- Championing new product development from innovation through to implementation by:

oPerforming physical and chemical characterisation of drug products
oAssessing the performance of excipients and formulations

- Involvement in outsourced formulation projects; potentially managing contract organisations
- Compilation of various supporting documents-specifications, stability protocols, product development reports, manufacturing records
- May provide supervision to junior team members
- Design and execute development protocols and reports
- Record all experimental outcomes to a high GLP or GMP standard
- To keep abreast of new technologies and developments in formulation and advise on how they could be introduced into the department
- Up to date knowledge of GMP, regulatory guidelines and USP/EP Chapters
- Where applicable, ensure laboratory equipment is calibrated and serviced in accordance with company protocols prior to use
- To promote effective team working
- Carries out work in a way that will not adversely affect their own, or others', health, safety and security


- Higher level scientific based degree and at least 3 years relevant experience within the pharmaceutical industry


- Experience in a pharmaceutical, laboratory based role with broad practice in developing a range of formulations


- Working knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel
- A high standard of numeracy skills
- Motivation to investigate and solve problems
- Ability to convey technical information in the form of a written report or presentation
- Excellent attention to detail to be able to record and interpret data accurately
