Lead Electrical Systems Engineer – (Contract) Hourly Rate Negotiable DOE

A leading manufacturer of vehicle safety critical components is looking to recruit a Lead Electrical Systems Engineer to join their team.

Purpose of Role:

The Lead Electrical Systems Engineer will lead the specification, design, development and approval of

electrical, electronic and control elements of products to meet both performance and cost targets.

Skills / Experience:

* Demonstrable experience in Electrical Systems design and development
* 3D CAD Package
* Hands-on Supplier and Customer facing experience
* Ability to develop Design verification plans

(E.g. Exhaust, Brakes Fuel, ECU’s, Vehicle Power Supplies, etc)

* Experience of requirements for system interfacing into Hybrid/Electrical vehicle (Electrical and Control)
* Working knowledge of 3 Phase Electrical Systems & Controls
* Working knowledge of Motors, inverters, PLC & Controls
* Experience with CANBUS / MODBUS or similar
* Experience of DC-AC systems
* IT Literate in Microsoft Office


* Determine design and verification plans
* Prepare designs for control panels and harnessing including accompanying schematics and engineering drawings
* Compile and maintain project control documents (Development plans; Drawing and software release plans; DFMEA; BoMs)
* Lead (technical and design) problem resolution activities
* Close liaison and coordination with Production; Quality; Logistics and Purchase to ensure parts, to the right level of maturity are available to support the build and test programmes.
* Ensure designs comply with all relevant electrical safety and industry standards

* Determine system Test and Sign Off requirements
* Work with suppliers to ensure design and control strategies are delivered to the specification (Modbus; CAN or similar) in a cost-effective manner
* Specify and integrate e-motors and related controllers into package solution

* Prepare system documentation including functional specifications, test documentation and support manuals

* Work with the Test and Development Laboratory (and external agencies) to deliver design verification, leading to Engineering Sign Off (this to include both physical testing and analysis)
