COMPANY: Our client, based in the Western Isles is a successful well established Civil Engineering and Plant Hire company based in the Western Isles are looking to recruit a HSQ (Health, Safety and Quality) Advisor

SALARY & BENEFITS: Salary negotiable depending on experience

WORKING HOURS: Full Time position

THE ROLE The role of the HSQ (Health, Safety and Quality) Advisor will be to support the business and its employees to manage Health and Safety for the delivery of a portfolio of construction contracts for a successful and growing Civil Engineering Contractor based in the Western Isles. 

Job purpose for the HSQ (Health, Safety and Quality) Advisor position:

• The ensure policies are reviewed and kept up to date. 
• To advise the directors, and support the contracts manager on Health and Safety, and deliver actions that will ensure that operational standards are continuously improved.
• To support the tendering process with Health and Safety submissions, the delivery stage with Health and Safety plans, ensuring that Health and Safety files are compiled as part of the project close out phase. 
• Site visibility and coaching good safety practice on sites with the teams will be an integral part of the role, ensuring compliance with regulations, policies and specific site controls.
• You will be responsible for developing staff and workforce competency through investment in training is an important value for the company, so the development and management of a training and competency matrix will be a key deliverable. 
• To carry out routine inspections, audits, and reporting along with monthly statistics will assist in the establishment of an operational excellence culture.

Key accountabilities:

• Ensuring the Health and safety policy is updated and becomes a living document, communicated across the staff and workforce.
• Owning and delivering the Health Safety and Quality annual improvement plans. 
• Producing and assisting staff to produce Health and Safety documents at tendering or delivery phases, or for specific pre-qualification bids.
• Monitoring safety on sites or in the workshop and yard, coaching staff in effective health and safety practice. 
• Recording, reporting and developing improvements. 
• Preparing Monthly directors reports.
• Ensuring that training is planned and delivered in a timely manner to ensure the competency matrix is delivered across the staff and workforce. 
• Planning and delivering an audit programme to ensure consistent approach is maintained. 
• Manage the Achilles, UVDB compliance and audit programme to ensure high standards. 
• Represent the company at Local Safety forums. 
• Assist the management of developing staff, ensuring a positive employment culture, implementing effective training strategies and high retention levels

THE CANDIDATE: The successful HSQ (Health, Safety and Quality) Advisor will be a highly motivated individual with excellent team working skills. You must have a commitment to ensuring the highest standards of Health & Safety at all times. Our client is looking for a practical assertive clear thinker with good communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. A good negotiator with a safety as a priority mind-set is needed for this position.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience required for the HSQ (Health, Safety and Quality) Advisor position:

• Must live within a commutable distance of the Isle of Lewis area
• A track record of Health and Safety in industry with experience in construction and
• advantage
• A current health and Safety qualification.
• Other appropriate qualifications may be considered.
• Skills in risk analysis for construction operations.
• Skills in applying the principles of hazard prevention to achieve safe working
• IT literate with experience and working knowledge of Word, Excel and database packages.
• Familiarity with CDM regulations.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
