Lecturer in Carpentry and Joinery – Poole – Permanent, Full Time - £21,396-£34,173pa

If so, Bournemouth and Poole College are looking for a Lecturer in Carpentry and Joinery to join their team and help students qualify to join the Carpentry and Joinery industry. You will be working in the construction department which has 370 full time students and over 400 apprentices. We are looking for someone who has great communication skills, a dynamic and innovative approach and who has exceptional knowledge of the Carpentry and Joinery trade.

Construction Department

Construction is based across two sites. The Fulcrum is located at Tower Park in Poole and the other is the main North Road Campus. The Fulcrum has two purpose built buildings which facilitate Brick and Wood occupations, we currently deliver Site carpentry, Bench Joinery, fitted interiors, brick laying and general construction operations. We also have a machine workshop for timber preparation. The Fulcrum facilities also include two computer classrooms and students also have access to additional computer facilities.

The North Road campus consists of Electrical, Paint and Decorating, Plastering and Plumbing. The facilities include separate workshops for each area to give the students a realistic approach to the workplace. There are also designated classrooms with suitable visual aids to facilitate teaching and learning.

A strong curriculum area with approximately 370 Full Time, over 400 Apprenticeships (including CITB) and 300 Full cost students with 45 staff members that offers a broad range of pathways. Apprenticeships, Study Programmes and Full Cost courses meet LEP priorities, local employer and employment needs in Brickwork, Wood, Plaster, Paint & Decorating, Electrical and Plumbing.

The area has a very successful employer engagement record with well attended employer forums and employer engagement, which links to the Apprenticeship weeks.

The Role

Your main responsibility will be to deliver a high quality and effective teaching of Carpentry and Joinery studies. You will contribute to the development and delivery of a range of educational programmes including identifying learning objectives, determining, designing and producing study material, as well as planning course/study programme delivery. Additionally, you will contribute to the high quality learning experiences of students using a variety of teaching and learning methods.

You will also provide academic and pastoral support to students in accordance with agreed procedures to ensure that every student has the opportunity to reach their potential.

Key responsibilities, skills and attitudes

Knowledge of currently evidence-based practice in field of expertise
Experience of 1st and 2nd fixing and cutting roofs/trusses
Experience facilitating assessment for student in Further education
5 years’ minimum industry experience in carpentry and Joinery
Excellent communication and organisation skills
Adaptable, enthusiastic and positive attitude to working with students
Strong communication skills
Proven ability to plan and organise workload
Ability to access and use relevant sources of research evidence
Dynamic and innovative approach
Ability to build strong working relationships
NVQ level 2 or Craft certificate in Carpentry and Joinery
Knowledge of issues relating to equal opportunities and cultural diversity
Knowledge of safeguarding of children and vulnerable adult’s legislation
