Student Support Managers

 (£23,558-£27,904) Pro rata

Term Time Only (38 weeks per year) and on an annualised hours basis in the approximate range 600-650 hours). Actual salary in the range £8,388 - £10,764 approx

The College is seeking to appoint into new pastoral support roles to provide pastoral support for our students.

Under the direction of the Pastoral and Welfare Manager, and in liaison with Heads of Curriculum, the main duties will include working with and supporting a cohort of approximately 275 students, to deliver tutorials, provide pastoral and academic support and where applicable UCAS support for university applications.

You will focus upon learner retention and success by providing regular 1-1 support to enable learners to access all aspects of the College curriculum. You will contribute to the College achieving excellent levels of student retention and achievement by tracking and monitoring learner’s academic progress, attendance and welfare concerns. In addition you will identify learners who are giving cause for concern, and support learners to achieve their full potential, through appropriate mentoring, and pastoral and personal development activities delivered via the weekly tutorial session.

You will specifically work with at risk students within your cohort, as identified through reports, or referred by teaching staff, by agreeing and monitoring performance contracts, and liaising with curriculum heads, welfare support staff, teaching staff, parents and external agencies, as required. You will also be required to maintain close links with the curriculum head regarding the attendance and performance of students and take appropriate action. You will play a lead role in ensuring the effective delivery of the tutorial and next steps programme, and the effective use of College systems for monitoring attendance and performance, liaising closely with the attendance advisors. An important part of the role will be to identify and agree actions in support of ‘at risk’ students with teaching staff in your curriculum area.

In addition, you will be required to provide support with student personal statements and job related documents, as well as UCAS applications and references as required.

The successful applicants will have relevant experience in working successfully with young people, and preferably with experience of personal tutoring. The aim is to ensure a holistic approach in supporting the academic and well-being needs of all students in your cohort.

Closing date for applications is midnight on Monday 2nd July
