Emotional and Well-being Support Officer

£18,168-£22,811 Pro rata

37 hours per week, Term Time Only (38 weeks)

The College is creating a new post to assist with support of students with mental health and emotional well-being needs.

The Emotional and Well-being Support Officer role is a challenging and exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, experienced individual who is able to support students with complex emotional health and behavioural needs. S/he will have a key role in supporting the progress of students requiring additional support, to help with the daily management of their emotional health, whilst working alongside Heads of Curriculum, Student Support Managers, Intensive Support Officer, nurses, counsellors and LDD Co-ordinator, to provide appropriate targeted support.  S/he will liaise closely with the learners Student Support Managers and academic staff in particular, to provide a first point of contact for immediate emotional support and implementation of appropriate interventions. The post will report to the Pastoral and Welfare Manager.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of success in supporting students with complex emotional and well-being needs, and the ability to work with parents/guardians in supporting young people. As a College, we are dedicated to ensuring the highest quality learning experience for all learners, and so a sound knowledge of equality and diversity, safeguarding and all policies and procedures relating to student welfare, is essential. It would be beneficial to have experience of working with multi-agency teams and/or social workers and liaising with emotional/mental health agencies. S/he will need to work on an individual mentoring basis for those highly vulnerable students, and liaise with outside agencies appropriately. There will also be a requirement to manage a safe ‘space’ where students can access immediate support and ‘time-out’, and to run additional support workshops. The role will also be part of the College safeguarding team.

This role would suit an individual able to demonstrate a supportive, empathetic and positive approach, with a strong commitment to working with students, showing sensitivity towards their needs. The successful candidate will be able to work effectively with all students who have emotional and behavioural needs, whilst having patience and a sense of humour. Punctuality, reliability and good administrative and organisational skills will be key in this post.

The closing date for applications is midnight Monday 2nd July.
