Provide customer focused services to berth holders and the public as the customer facing element of the marina as a dock master on the duty roster.

To operate and maintain the marinas systems and machinery to provide an efficient and cost effective service.

Maintain the marina maintenance records for all equipment and facilities.

Maintain marina operational records.

Principal accountabilities

General Functions

1 The dock master is the operational point of contact between the customers and the marina during their tour of duty.
2 Carry out the duties and functions assigned by the Harbour master and the duty roster including late working, weekend working and bank holiday working where required.
3 During their shift they are responsible for the safety and security of the marina and its customers.
4 General operations include operating the sea lock, marina work boat, crane, boat moving equipment and any other specialist equipment that may be provided from time to time.
5 Provide maintenance support as part of the maintenance team.
6 Contribute to the provision of a quality and value for money marina service.
7 Maintain a level of knowledge and skill necessary to effectively perform the duties of the post and comply with any appropriate standards of Continuing Professional Development.
8 Maintains a customer focus. Liaises with customers and users, other Departments and external agencies to ensure that the services provide best value and meet the needs and preferences of existing and potential users.

Specialist Functions

1 Undertake work that utilises a variety of technical skills in respect of the day to day management of the marina and other water areas including operation and maintenance of all of the Marina specialist engineering equipment
2 Carry out day to day facility management, repairs and maintenance within the Marina.
3 Follow the marina procedures for the booking and recording of all boat movements and maintenance work carried out.
4 Produce regular reports on progress of planned repairs and maintenance work being undertaken and any emergency work carried out.
5 Act as a uniform presence and point of contact and first line of support for members of the public and berth holders
6 Health and safety management within the Marina on a day to day basis including making safe all identified health and safety risks that come to light or are reported through day to day management.
7 Identifying all tools and equipment required to perform the day to day management of the site, order supplies via the marina administrator as necessary within context of financial constraints as advised by Marina Manager.
8 Patrolling the site on a daily basis, gathering statistics and information and maintaining the marina boat records.
9 Operation and updating of the haven star marina management system. Including bookings, boat movements, maintain customer records, boat plot and other functions of the system
10 Taking customer payments in accordance with the relevant financial instructions.
11 Assist with the preparation of risk assessments for all of the marina’s equipment and operations
12 Follow the marina and council health and safety procedures and instructions
13 Managing the movement of all water traffic within the marina and other water areas giving due care to safe navigation.
14 Operation of the Marina crane to lift boats in and out of the water.
15 Using the boat moving equipment to move boats around the operational area.
16 De-mounting boats from the trailer to the yard and chocking
17 Operate the lifting road bridge, including all aspects of health and safety and public protection.
18 Operate and undertake sewage removal from customers boats using the pump out craft and disposal into public sewers via the toilet block.
19 Inspecting the Marina, boatyard and car park and undertaking litter picking and clearance of general refuse in order to maintain a high standard of service to berth holders and members of the public.
20 Inspecting and managing the safety of all public areas within the marina and other water areas including gates and all walkways.
21 Responding to customers request and concerns and reporting any issues to the Marina manager in order to support a customer focused service.
22 Reporting of all faults and damage in the maintenance book.
