THE ROLE: Application Support Engineer, Rotherham, South Yorkshire

This is an exciting opportunity for an organised, experienced and hardworking individual to join a world-wide leading supplier of durability, test and analysis software. 

The Application Support Engineer will be responsible for providing 1st and 2nd line support to customers. This covers assistance with installation and support of our software, as well as investigating faults and potential defects. You will need to be able to talk to customers about technical issues in a way in which they understand, and deal effectively with both technical and non-technical people.

Tracking customer incidents and ensuring that they are documented accurately and resolved in a timely fashion is a key element of this role. You will need to be organised and capable of working both independently and in co-ordination with other support staff, developers, account managers and application engineers. You will be expected to take ownership of such issues and be responsible for their communication and resolution.

You will be expected to have enough knowledge of Java web technologies to be able to read code and work with developers to identify the cause of customer issues. While this is not a development role, it is the ideal opportunity for someone who is looking for the chance to develop their technical skills in either development or system/database administration.

Key Responsibilities to include: Application Support Engineer, Rotherham, South Yorkshire
• To design, implement, maintain and document web based software using a Java based stack 
• To support the scrum and scaled agile processes as part of a multi-skilled team. 
• Creation of documents to support design, specification, and product management activities.
• Edit, review and author draft software documentation.
• Liaison with other nCode groups, including Support and Sales and required.
• To mentor Software Engineers as required
• To make recommendations to resolve technical, strategic and organisational issues.
• To maintain knowledge of the full web technology stack.

Our client is a leading international supplier to a range of markets including automotive, aerospace and defence. The software and solutions division offers products and services across the entire measurement spectrum from virtual to physical. 
Salary and benefits will depend on hours worked and level of experience. 
Key Experience/ Characteristics preferred for the role:- Application Support Engineer, Rotherham, South Yorkshire
• A proven background in IT Systems support focusing on applications rather than underlying infrastructure, preferably of web-based applications. This should have been for at least two years.
• Working knowledge of Java
• Ability to write SQL queries and perform basic database operations
• Good general understanding of modern Windows based infrastructure and applications software
• Proven in a customer facing IT support role over email and phone
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Patient nature and ability to deal with customers over the phone
• Flexible attitude, ability to perform under pressure
• A commitment to quality and a thorough approach to the work
• Ability to work well within a team

Key Experience/ Characteristics preferred for the role:- Application Support Engineer, Rotherham, South Yorkshire

• Web development skills – Java, HTML, Javascript.
• Knowledge of the Oracle and / or MySQL databases.
• Knowledge of Windows and / or Linux administration.
• Foreign language skills would be advantageous. For example French or German.
• Experience with Salesforce or other similar CRM system.
• Any knowledge of mechanical engineering, particularly signal processing or fatigue.
• A degree in Engineering or IT related discipline.
