Taskmaster in Huddersfield are looking for an experienced Mechanical
Services Technician for a minimum 3 month contract at the University
of Huddersfield.

The post of the Mechanical Services Technician reports to the
Mechanical Services Engineer and its main objectives are:

To be responsible for safe operation and maintenance of designated
mechanical services installations and plant on sites or building
owned, leased or controlled by the University, mindful of user safety,
building appearance, value-for-money and best practice.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

1.0 Technical

1.1 To prepare as directed estimates, designs and specifications for
mechanical services installations and plant.

1.2 To undertake tests and prepare reports as directed.

1.3 To report as directed on the performance of mechanical services
materials and plant to enhance the building performance, especially
energy efficiency, and extend the buildings' life.

1.4 To programme and supervise to previously agreed standards
mechanical services and plant maintenance and refurbishment works as
directed to ensure safe and efficient operation in compliance with the
current regulations.

12.0 Financial Control

2.1 To ensure that all work is carried out to the best possible
standards within the prescribed expenditure, procedural and time
restraints whilst maximising value for money.

2.2 To prepare as directed detailed and budget estimates of cost in
isolation and in conjunction with other allied trades.

3.0 Management

3.1 To supervise mechanical services and plant refurbishment and
maintenance works undertaken by Directly Employed or contracted
labour.

3.2 To effectively supervise work to ensure adherence to deadlines,
standard of work and value for money.

3.3 To assist with the maintenance and operation of computer based
information and CAD systems.

4.0 Provision of information

4.1 To contribute to reports on the use, performance and operational
suitability of building services elements and materials.

4.2 To provide information to the Mechanical Services Engineer on all
mechanical services and plant related materials.

4.3 To provide information and data to assist the Building’s
Operational Manager.

4.4 To provide effective and efficient programmes of work.

5.0 Miscellaneous

5.1 Ensure, so far as is possible, the health, safety and welfare of
the post holder and others likely to be affected by his/her actions.
Ensure the safety and security of all property of the University.

5.2 Ensure that the post holder is aware of, and suitably trained in,
the current regulations relating to the mechanical building services
industry and appropriate to their post.

5.3 Participate in an out of hours on-call rota for building and
engineering service matters.

5.4 Working within the University procedures and standards, provide
innovative, cost-effective and legislatively complaint solutions to
problems in the University’s built environment.

The Person

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following
attributes:

Qualifications/

Training

·HNC Building Services or Equivalent

City & Guilds Advanced Craft Certificate in either:

·Mechanical Building Services / Pipe Fitting / Plumbing

or

·NVQ-MES Certificate in either: Plumbing Level 3 / Building Mechanical
Services (HVAC)

·Plumbing Certificate

CITB training in the following:

(1) Compressed air systems.

(2) Technical support/Maintenance of Steam Boiler Plant

(3) Boiler controls & Combustion

(4) Control of Legionella

(5) Unvented Hot Water Systems

(6) National Accredited Certification Scheme in Gas Safety (ACS) in
the following;

(7) Domestic – CCN1,CEN1,WAT1

(8) Commercial – COCN1,ICPN1,TPCP1A,

CIGA1,CORT1,ICAE1

(9) Knowledge of Building energy Management Systems
