(Snr/Lead) Full Stack Engineer, Media (Remote working) - London

£65 to £85k

My client, one of the UK`s largest media publishers are looking for a Snr or Lead Full Stack Engineer to join their brand new development team called Emerging Products which operates entirely lean, Innovation driven, and focus relentlessly on Innovating fast to discover new business models in the Publishing Industry. They offer a few days a week remote working.

They encompass an award winning portfolio of 5 national titles, 130 regional titles and over 500 digital products. They are experiencing phenomenal online growth, and the acquisition of Local World in 2015 has strengthened their presence in the local markets. They are well on their way to becoming the dominant local player online in the UK.

What you will do
You will maintain and extend our existing back end, mostly consisting of REST API`s and AWS Lambda functions, mostly built in Node.js and Python.
You will also be involved in front end development (fully isomorphic React). You will help building out our highly performant server-side rendering framework based on AWS Lambda@Edge.
You will also have the opportunity, if you show an aptitude for it, to get involved in native app development (React Native) and/or machine learning (Python).

You will work closely with:
1. the head of engineering,
2. the head of product,
3. and a few other back end, full stack, and machine learning engineers.
We are a small and cohesive team, and we always optimise for shortest time to market, which often results in tech debt being introduced on purpose, and factored out once a feature has been validated. You have to be comfortable with this style of working. We deploy all the time.

Skills you`ll need
You need to be fluent in Javascript, with commercial experience in building applications with either NodeJS, vanilla JS or any Frontend JS frameworks (e.g. Angular, React, Vue).
Being fluent in React would be awesome, but if you understand Javascript very well, we`re perfectly capable of helping you achieve this skill.
Since we also work on machine learning, knowledge of Python is a plus if you want to be involved in that area.
An understanding and preference for Functional Programming is highly desirable.
We use AWS extensively, and we expect all engineers to provision their own resources (using Cloudformation), so some knowledge of AWS will help. We expect to mentor you in this aspect though.
You will design, build, deploy, and maintain complete services. We will help you achieve this level as quickly as possible, but we expect you to be comfortable with this expectation.
