Main responsibilitiesAs our Media Relations and Communications Manager, you will be senior member of a busy team that delivers the communications programme across a range of internal and external channels for Compass Group UK & Ireland and its sectors. You be responsible for:


Creating and delivering external communications plans, in line with the business’ objectives and those of its sectors. This includes managing proactive news generation such as press releases, features, opinion pieces and securing interviews, covering a wide range of topics
Advise on, manage and organise external media interviews including written and verbal briefings; liaising closely with senior stakeholders across the business
Manage high profile reputational impact issues, gathering relevant information to inform stakeholders and recommend an approach to mitigate the impact on Compass’ reputation
Be the go to person on issues and developments impacting the business and the first point of contact for journalists wishing to engage with Compass
Manage media events, briefings and entertainment and maintain relations with key media contacts
Work closely with a Communications Officer so that Compass’ social media channels and its website are homes to highly compelling, engaging and updated content
Manage the work assigned to a number of PR agencies retained within sectors
Be available as part of the communications team rota to handle enquiries from journalists during out of office hours

Ideal candidateTo be right for us, you will have previous experience working in a PR or communications agency or in the communications department of a large public sector or private organisation. You will have the following areas of experience:


Have extensive issues management experience in the trade and national media with the ability to quickly assess a situation, distil it in a way that people understand and advise on what the communications approach should be
Be a strategic thinker with the ability to both see the larger picture and the tactical requirements of a communications programme and advise sector heads accordingly
Be comfortable working under pressure, handling multiple tasks and prioritising as needed
Have outstanding written and verbal skills with high standards of grammar, punctuation and spelling
Be a self-starter, highly organised and comfortable working both autonomously and within teams
Ability to work with senior stakeholders to gather and digest information using solid judgement to make informed decisions
Have a relentless curiosity for news and current affairs
Be a pursuer of creative content be it written or visual and be confident in its use in telling the Compass’ story
