My client is currently looking to employ an Associate Director to join their geotechnical engineering team based in London
You will have responsibility for leading and developing the Geotechnical team, within the wider Infrastructure team, including the supervision and training of senior and design engineers in the field of geotechnical engineering.
The role will require liaison with project team leaders in order to plan and forecast the workload of the geotechnical team. The role will require internal management of projects and associated resourcing appropriate to experience and capability.
Responsibility for the specialist geotechnical engineering aspects of project design from bid-stage to completion in commercial, health, retail, industrial, education and other sectors. This shall include the ability to attend interviews and client meetings to discuss the geotechnical aspects of a project and our proposed approach.
The role will also require liaison with the wider design team and supervision of the preparation of detailed designs and specification to meet with design and construction programmes.
Strategic oversight and technical review of third party impact assessments involving ground movement analysis, with a responsibility to develop the related skills and competencies within the geotechnical team.
Ideally you will have;
�Experience in managing a small geotechnical team (5-10 people) and planning resource against project requirements.
�Experience in contributing to bids for new project opportunities and the ability to attend interviews to discuss the geotechnical aspects of a project and our proposed approach.
�Experience in undertaking impact assessments on utilities, infrastructure and third party structures. This shall include the ability to plan appropriate ground movement analyses and an understanding of the various assessment procedures and criteria that apply. The candidate shall ideally have specific experience working in London and liaising with local stakeholders.
�Experience in preparing option studies for basement and foundation design and developing these proposals through to construction. This shall include attendance of project meetings with the design team and client, contribution to end of stage design reports, the preparation of specifications and review of calculations and drawings as necessary.
�Sound knowledge of geotechnical analysis and design methods across a range of soil types covering ordinary and piled rafts, other forms of spread footing, piles, retaining walls, deep excavations, ground improvement, dewatering, slope stability and embankment design. The candidate must have extensive experience dealing with the ground conditions found in and around London but would ideally have experience stretching beyond this.
�Computer literate with knowledge of relevant design and analysis programmes, including 2D and 3D geotechnical FEM analysis programmes (e.g. Plaxis 2D and 3D), halfspace models (e.g. PDisp) and contouring programmes (e.g. XDisp).
�The candidate would ideally have pre-existing familiarity and positive relationships with London and UK based geotechnical subcontractors.
�Experience in producing specifications for site investigation works and testing.
�Experience in producing geotechnical and geoenvironmental interpretative reports based upon analysis of factual site investigation data and test results.
�Experience in dealing with contaminated ground conditions, including specification of remediation.

Qualification and experience

�Chartered Geotechnical Engineer, preferably ICE with an education in geotechnical engineering.
�The ideal applicant will be able to demonstrate their experience, competency and flexibility to rise to challenging situations and take on responsibility appropriate to their capability.
