User Support Analyst - Python / Data

A User Support Analyst, who has experience of maintaining and supporting software codes within a scientifically orientated environment, is needed to join a leading centre for weather forecasts. Joining on a fixed term contract due to end on the 31st December 2020, you will form part of a talented team tasked with providing 1st to 3rd line support for atmosphere and climate change services.

With over 40 years` experience, 350 employees across more than 30 countries, and one of the largest supercomputer facilities in Europe, this innovative research centre is at the forefront of numerical weather predictions. They are now seeking a User Support Analyst / Service Support Analyst who has experience with JIRA to resolve technical problems for users.

Joining the User Support Team, the User Support Analyst / Service Support Analyst, will provide 1st and 2nd line support whilst managing 3rd line user support for both the Atmosphere Monitoring Service and Climate Change Service. On a day-to-day basis expect to provide advice / solutions; deliver swift diagnosis; understand user needs; work closely with domain experts; ensure the transfer of knowledge; continuously improve tools and documents; monitor user satisfaction; developing scripts and tools and anything else necessary to ensure the seamless delivery of services to global users.

To qualify- � You should be User Support Analyst / Service Support Analyst / IT Support Analyst / IT User Support Manager or similar with a CV that demonstrates:

- Good experience in user support within a scientifically-oriented domain;
- Experience of using or maintaining and supporting software codes, in particular Python;
- Experience of using and maintaining Atlassian JIRA and JIRA Service Desk, Confluence is desirable;
- Good knowledge of high-level programming languages, including Python, and shell scripts on Unix/Linux;
- Good understanding of using application packages to access and process data;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you are excellent at listening to and respecting the views of others;
- The ability to communicate and understand the complex requirements of users in the use of large volumes of data and software;
- The ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both non-technical and technical people;
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach;
- The flexibility to adapt to changing organisational priorities and user needs; The ability to work collaboratively, sharing expertise and lessons learned with colleagues;
- A university degree, or equivalent, in a scientific discipline, e.g. meteorology, (atmospheric) physics, applied mathematics and computational science.

Some basic knowledge of atmospheric and/or climate data and services would be desirable as would any experience in handling GRIB and/or NetCDF data.
