Learning mentor – Tameside based secondary school – Immediate start on a full time basis.

A secondary school in Tameside have a full time Learning Mentor position starting immediately on a long term basis. The position is to work closely with KS3 pupils (Year 7-9) to improve their confidence in school, both academically and socially with their peers. As a learning mentor, you will report to the schools SEN co-ordinator and Pastoral team, reviewing progress in core subjects and also the pupils attendance, behaviour and their social development.

Situated in the Eastern area of Tameside, this is a well facilitated mixed secondary school roughly average in size, with an excellent reputation for inclusion and pupil development. The successful applicant undertaking this role as a Learning Mentor will have the opportunity to earn a school temporary contract until July 2019, this is initially a temporary position which will be reviewed regularly to ensure progress is being made, attendance improves and behaviour is reduced throughout the school day. Previous experience working within a secondary school environment is desired, however if you have worked as a teaching assistant previously or supported children with behaviour issues, please apply for this role now. As a Learning Mentor you will be expected to make a positive contribution to pupils confidence and progress in lessons, keeping disruption to a minimum. You’ll be expected to lead small groups in and out of class, focusing on a range of subjects but particularly English, Maths and Science. Previous experience in a similar role is desired, you will update subject leaders and the Head of year on progress and input during lessons and in the small group activities.
