Location: Buckinghamshire 

This is a great opportunity to join this forward-thinking company on a state-of-the-art site as an Operations Manager, leading the line to help run this energy from waste site.

Milton Keynes Waste Recovery Park is an exciting new facility which will deal with Buckinghamshire's black sack waste in a sustainable way. It brings together mechanical treatment and heat energy recovery technology to cut the amount of rubbish sent to the landfills to around 3%.

Purpose & Role Responsibilities

- The main purpose of the ATT Operations Manager Role is to maximize the safe production of the Advanced Thermal Treatment plant in line with the business strategy.
- To deliver and supervise tasks effectively to agreed standards, timescales in line with all safety policies
- Manage all aspects of the safe systems of work along with release of plant for the Advanced Thermal Treatment.
- Safe and efficient operation of the plant during steady state, startup, shutdown and emergency situations as directed by the Operations Manager or nominee from a Central Control Room and/or on the plant as required by the operational demands of the plant.
- Ensure day to day compliance with all aspects of the Environmental Permit, reporting any non-compliance or incident to the Operations Manager or his/her delegate.
- Work within the company’s Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental System and all relevant legislation.
- To be authorised under the safety rules to the level of Senior Authorised Person to apply isolation, locks and safety tags, and the preparation and issuing of safety documents.
- Carrying out responsibilities as defined in the companies Safety Rules and associated procedures.
- Participate in company/site HSE initiatives including the HSE forum activities.
- Implementing the company’s health, safety and environmental management policies and actively participate in company/site HSE initiatives including the HSE forum activities, including procedure reviews on a periodic basis.

Day to Day Tasks

- Provide trained, competent labour in the ATT areas.
- Complete labour demands in the various areas within the ATT area, e.g shift checks, plant condition monitoring, visual inspections.
- Comply with company standards and assist in maintaining, with respect to safety, plant operations, environmental control, security and housekeeping.
- Ensure the plant is operated to the agreed procedures and availability.
- Carry out basic instrument calibration.
- Effectively use and interrogate SCADA (Siemens PCS7) system to fault find and optimise plant utilisation.
- Willingness to work overtime and shift work ensuring H&S is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner always.
- General administration tasks.
- Theoretical and practical knowledge.
- Monitor the operational performance of the ATT team.
- Motivate and lead team members, provide guidance and advice to other members of the ATT team.
- Deal with day to day discipline and performance management of the team.
- Attend training courses necessary for development of skills needed to carry out the tasks performed.
- Lead by example on H&S culture.
- Carry out performance reviews for direct reports and carry out disciplinary procedures where applicable.
- Provide training and refresher training for all staff in the ATT.
- Revision of manuals and systems.
- Planning and delivery of full contract training.


- HNC or equivalent operating process plant qualification.
- Can operate on tools.


- Communication skills
- Problem-solving skills


- Energy from waste or power station experience in a related industry
- SCADA (Siemens PCS7)
