This this opportunity is great for an aspiring Engineer with a background in Geology/Mining/Civil Engineer to join a new initiative and develop their career into a new area and gain valuable experience.

What we are looking for:

A professionally focused engineer with a passion for engineering, who enjoys working collaboratively and enjoy autonomous working. You should be qualified to HND / Degree or equivalent level in Surveying, Civils, Mining Engineering or appropriate discipline together with corporate membership of professional body

About the role:

You will undertake training and knowledge transfer to become an expert in spoil tip management. Based in the South Wales region you will support the Regional Project Managers in delivering a range of challenging and stimulating projects relating to disused tip management and public safety related issues.

You'll need:

* A sound engineering background preferably in civil / geotechnical or structural Engineering
* Experience of dealing with the management and supervision of Contractors and contractual matters
* Good knowledge of ground investigation works
* Working knowledge of slope stability issues and calculations
* Working knowledge of the management of disused tips
* Working knowledge of contaminated land issues
* Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar software
* Ability to undertake travelling to sites throughout the UK
* Working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental issues
* Experience of contractor and stakeholder management
* A good knowledge of construction Health & Safety
* Knowledge and understanding of the risks to public safety arising from the legacy of coal mining
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Exceptional decision, negotiating and organisation skills
* Working knowledge of environmental issues
* Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
* A commitment to on-going learning and development
* A positive attitude to collaborative working
* A sound level of IT literacy

If successful, you'll be:

* Assisting the Principal Project Manager with the inspection and management of mine spoil tip sites and to undertake property site inspections
* Undertaking site inspections, compiling reports, specifying remedial and maintenance works, supervising contractors and consultants and liaising with statutory bodies and stakeholders
* Assisting Regional Project Managers with their portfolio of tip, surface hazard and subsidence projects, primarily in South Wales
* Gaining experience and knowledge specifically relating to tip management
* Ensuring that a portfolio of projects is adequately progressed and resourced, and that stakeholders are effectively managed
* Implementing project plans and priorities
* Ensuring adequate investigations are carried out to determine the Authority's liability
* Supervising contractors and consultants undertaking research, investigations and remediation
* Undertaking field related tasks as required which may include the inspections of tips, properties, liability sites and to undertake monitoring and sampling as required
* Acting as a public interface, representing the Authority and dealing with live enquiries from members of the public, and other stakeholders
* Monitoring project income and expenditure, and reviewing provisions, accruals and future forecasts against budget
* Identifying opportunities to maximise the income and value from our existing property portfolio and seeking out and developing additional commercial opportunities
* Providing advice to other team members across the authority
