Chef (Maternity Cover)

Location: Fairthorne Manor, Southampton

Salary: �17,550 to �18,525 per annum - depending on experience

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (fixed term from 4th Feb 2019 to 19th Dec 2019)

Holiday: 25 days per annum (FTE), increasing with length of service

About the Organisation:

The organisation is a community based charity with a serious ambition to grow their already successful social enterprise model. Their purpose allows people the opportunity to lead happy, healthy lives. They achieve this through bringing people of all backgrounds and abilities together delivering effective programmes.

They operate throughout Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton from 30 venues. Their programmes include 13 early years settings, Day camps, community activities and housing for young people.

About their client:

Their client delivers outdoor education and environmental programmes to over 15,000 children and young people each year on both a residential and day basis. The programme consists of a wide range of activities, including amongst others canoeing, climbing, archery and orienteering. In addition, they have a very successful day nursery and development training courses for adults. They deliver services and programmes 7 days of the week throughout most of the year.

Their catering team provide a supportive environment in which individuals can thrive. The kitchen is often extremely busy, but that doesn't affect the fun, energetic atmosphere the team have created.

Purpose of the Chef:

To share the lead for the preparation, cooking and service of food and be responsible for the daily supervision of the kitchen to the Organisation's standards. The Chef will be covering maternity leave and will therefore have a fixed term contract running from 4thFebruary 2019 to 19thDecember 2019.

Responsibilities of the Chef:

* To support the Catering Manager in all aspects of preparation, cooking, presentation, serving and clearing up of meals to the Organisation's standard.
* To be able to fulfil different dietary needs competently.
* To line-manage junior staff on duty.
* To respond to customer requests quickly, as they occur.
* To receive training that is necessary to maintain & improve the standards of the establishment.
* To ensure a high standard of personal hygiene, cleanliness and neatness. To comply with Statutory & Organisational hygiene regulations in the handling and storage of food.
* To act in the interests of your own safety & the safety of others at all times
* Anything else reasonably requested by the management of the organisation to follow Safe Guarding, Child Protection and Safer Working practice policies at all times. Taking any concerns regarding a health or/and wellbeing to your line manager or senior

Requirements of the Chef:

Essential:

* Good knowledge of health and safety
* Good knowledge of food hygiene (training can be provided)
* Experience meeting dietary needs

Desirable:

* Experience working in a busy kitchen
* 7061/2 or NVQ equivalent, or proven experience (specific training is available)
* HACCP Level 2
* Stock control experience
* Food Safety (Catering) Level2 or equivalent
