Salary:                         £35,109 (£15.34 equivalent hourly rate)
Overtime rate:             £169.39 per day

Our client is one of the UK's leading home discount stores, stocking up to 4000 branded product lines and employs over 17,000 people.  They are currently expanding their Amesbury operation and are seeking experienced Class 1 drivers to join their team.

Main Objectives and Responsibilities

- Drive vehicles with due care and attention and a respect for traffic law and Company policy and procedures
- Fully comply with driver hours and regulations
- Ensure vehicles are maintained to a high standard in line with health and safety, legal requirements and Company process
- Carefully load and unload cages at store with regard to personal safety as instructed in the Company health and safety manual
- Ensure checks are carried out as required and to report all defects in a timely and efficient manner
- Connect to a trailer and carry out vehicle checks promptly
- Ensure that deliveries are made on time and at the right place
- Ensure all paperwork is completed and processed accurately
- Develop, maintain and promote positive relationships with all colleagues and management teams

Knowledge, Training and Experience

- Class 1 HGV driving licence
- Full knowledge of transport operating procedures
- Minimum 12 months’ recent experience of working as a Class I HGV Driver
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant driving Law, Regulations and Directives
- A reasonable knowledge and understanding of health and safety requirements

Awareness of the Working Environment and Effort Required

- Understand that communication is imperative between management and when necessary stores
- Remaining aware throughout the distribution centre of the exceptionally busy workload
- Flexibility is essential to the needs of the driver as this may require working outside of the normal working hours
- Physically demanding role due to being required to push cages of varying weight into the store warehouse and to load empty cages back onto the vehicle
- Proactive approach to training and internal and external updates in relation to job
- Awareness of expected delays at the depot and whilst at the road
- Awareness of local prohibitions regarding traffic rules and regulations

Health and Safety

- Comply with all written and verbal instructions given to ensure personal safety and the safety of others
- Use all safety and protective equipment as provided
- Dress sensibly and safely in accordance with the dress code applicable for the area of work
- Avoid improvising or making adjustments that could create an unnecessary risk to your personal safety or the safety of others
- Maintain all tools and equipment in good condition and report any safety hazard, equipment defects or malfunction to management as they occur
- Report all incidents to a member of management whether an injury is sustained or not
- Attend safety training courses as required
- Observe all procedures relating to specific processes, materials and substances used
- Ensure work area is tidy at all times
