Clinical Fellows in Anaesthesia - Peterborough City Hospital

North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust is currently one of the newest acute hospital trusts in England, formed on 1 April 2017. The Trust runs Peterborough City Hospital, Hinchingbrooke Hospital and Stamford & Rutland Hospital. Together they serve approximately 700,000 residents.

Peterborough City Hospital is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art hospital that opened in 2010, offering a bright and spacious working environment with a comprehensive range of clinical services. The Department of Anaesthesia currently has 44 Consultants and the work undertaken includes all surgical specialities with the exception of cardio-thoracics and neurosurgery. The total workload comprises approximately 22,000 operations per annum. There are approx. 2500 emergency cases and 4000 obstetric deliveries. In addition there are both acute and chronic pain services within the department. The hospital has a 16 bedded Critical Care Unit, providing a flexible mix of level 2 and 3 bed capacity. The latest GMC ICM trainee survey ranked our unit as the best for trainees in the East of England.

The posts are for a period of one year initially, renewable by mutual consent. Start dates of February 2019 or August 2019 are available. You will work flexibly within the Department of Anaesthesia at PCH and provide on-call cover on a 1 in 8 rota. The On Call Anaesthesia Consultant is resident every day between 0800 and 2300 and the On Call Critical Care Consultant is resident between 0800 and 2200hrs. Further training and supervision will be provided as needed and required.

This post is open to Anaesthesia trainees who hold the Royal College of Anaesthetists’ (RCOA) Basic Level Training Certificate (or equivalent experience). Applicants also need to be competent in Critical Care and Obstetric Anaesthesia.

Overseas applicants should demonstrate a breadth and depth of experience comparable to that obtainable in the United Kingdom, and for the same period of time.

You will receive a minimum of four hours per week protected time (up to eight hours by agreement) to support your professional development. There are a variety of potential uses for this time including (but not limited to) quality improvement projects, management experience, research and audit, morbidity and mortality review, time in allied specialties and private study for post graduate exam revision. The department encourages those who may have finished their speciality training to apply.

Peterborough is close to the charming and varied countryside of Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland. It has excellent road transport links and is only a 50 minute train journey into Central London.
