WHOLE TIME / PART TIME
CONSULTANT IN CLINICAL ONCOLOGY (TWO POSTS)

Applications are invited for the posts of two Consultant Clinical Oncologists to commence April 2019. There will be two new posts that have evolved due to the expansion of services in Peterborough City Hospital (PCH) Oncology Unit and are currently filled by locum consultants.

We are a committed team of Clinical Oncologists, Medical Oncologists, Radiographers and Physicists delivering comprehensive cancer care to our patients. The department has an enthusiastic research team and recruits to National radiotherapy and chemotherapy trials. We have an active AOS service with 3.5 WTE CNS members of the team. The Oncology department enjoys close links with the Haematology and Palliative Care services on the PCH site. We are evolving close links with Hinchingbrooke hospital since the merger to form NW Anglia Trust.

The Radiotherapy Department at Peterborough City Hospital has already earned a reputation for being one of the top performing departments in the country. Currently we have state of the art equipment; all our patients receive online Image-Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT) and the latest rotational IMRT techniques are used routinely for all appropriate patients. We have a three Linear Accelerator service.

The successful applicants would be expected to specialise according to departmental need but special interests of applicants will be considered and some flexibility may be possible.

The first clinical oncology post will cover colorectal cancer, urological cancer, and skin cancer (RT only). (Please review Job description and Person Specification 1)

The second clinical oncology post will cover urological cancer, breast cancer RT, and UGI cancer. (Please review Job description and Person Specification 2)

Some flexibility may well be possible with both posts. The post holders will work in collaboration with existing Clinical and Medical Oncology colleagues and Clinical Nurse Specialists and a Consultant Radiographer.

The post holder would be based at PCH where there are many opportunities to be involved in teaching and research.

The appointment will be whole time and employed by North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. Any consultant who is unable for personal reasons, to work full-time, will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with consultant and managerial colleagues.

Candidates for this post should have the following:

Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) at time of interview
Possession of FRCR or equivalent and MRCP or equivalent qualifications

Peterborough is a pleasant East Anglian city with excellent commuting to all parts of the country, including a 50-minute train service to London.

When completing an application please specify which post you would like to apply for or if you would like to be considered for both.

Employees commencing employment who require a DBS Check, or existing staff transferring to roles which require a DBS or higher level DBS than currently held, will be charged for the cost of the check (currently £50 for an Enhanced Check and £31 for a Standard Check). This payment will be deducted from your first months’ salary.

Appointment to any position is conditional on the satisfactory completion of the core NHS Employment Checks Standards. Information disclosed in your application will be checked and any offer of appointment may be withdrawn if you knowingly withhold or provide false or misleading information. In submitting an application form, you authorise the Trust to confirm any previous NHS service details via the Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) process should you be appointed. This includes a check with the DBS Update Service where registered.

Tier 2 applicants working in healthcare will need to provide a criminal record certificate for them and any dependants from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the 10 years prior to their application.

Our employee benefits include:
- Excellent pension, maternity and sick pay schemes
- On-site flexible nursery open 7am to 8pm 52 weeks a year (Hinchingbrooke Hospital only)
- Access to inhouse physiotherapy services
- Family friendly working patterns
- Subsidised restaurant & car parking

Our Values - At the heart of all that we do
We don’t only recruit employees based on their qualifications and experience - we look for individuals who possess and demonstrate behaviours which underpin the core values of our organisation. These include such attributes as being dedicated, practicing the highest level of care towards everyone, showing courage and embracing innovation. We can bring those values to life in our everyday tasks by giving a smile; making time for people; challenging ourselves and others, and being open to new ideas. So show us through your application and at interview how you meet these.
