Are you an experienced Mess Treasurer or Service Fund Accountant looking for your next role? Are you an experienced user of Sage? If so, our ESS business has a brilliant opportunity for a Financial Administrator to join us onsite at HMS Drake in Plymouth!

Main responsibilitiesAs Financial Administrator, you will be our Mess Treasurer and assist with all ESS Financial Administration. Your responsibilities will include:


Maintain the Mess accounts, accurately, up to date, and in accordance with current regulations
Produce the annual income and expenditure forecast and statement
Operate the Mess bank accountant and maintaining an effective Mess Bill collection and recording system
Prepare and assist in the annual civilian financial audit
Pay all invoices following verification of correctness and approval to pay
Provide a financial statement of account at Mess Committee meetings
Empty all coin operated machines weekly
Clear and balance the bar tills weekly and inform the Mess President of any discrepancies
Assist the Mess President and Contract Support Manager with costing of any functions
Invoice all users of Mess services
Receive monies for bookings and Mess functions
Prepare and process associate and social members security applications
Raise bill and receive payments for accommodation for all non-military personnel
Prepare monthly D94/95’s for the casual accommodation charges and as required make a payment to the Naval Base Cashier
Maintain a VAT register
In conjunction with Mess Manager, prepare Pass forms as required for Mess functions
Update Nexus computer system with the daily takings

Ideal candidateTo be right for us, you will be an enthusiastic individual with excellent communication and customer service skills. You will be an experienced user of Sage Accounting with previous or current experience as a Mess Treasurer or Service Fund Accountant. You will have skills, experience and knowledge in the following areas:


Knowledge of the Charities Commission rules and regulations
Experience or an understanding of VAT accounting
Microsoft Word and Excel
Previous experience in Service Fund Accounting
Self-motivated and able to work unsupervised
