The ideal candidate will have experience of delivering designs to a high standard across the disciplines of Public Realm and Traffic Engineering. They will be able to develop designs from the initial concept and successfully complete the subsequent design stages through preliminary, detailed and construction design. This role will be based in Croydon but working across London, the South East and Nationally.
The team forms part of the wider national Transport Planning & Urban Development business. The overall team has a wide-ranging capability. The multi-disciplinary nature of the business also means that we are able to deliver project teams from disciplines wider than transportation to offer clients a true ‘one stop shop’.

Our Development team is involved in high profile projects in the UK and overseas, including Local Authorities, Transport for London, Crossrail, National Grid, HS2 and Network Rail. Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international projects. A selection of our current and recent projects include: London Bridge Station, Redevelopment, Crossrail 1, HS2, Lower Thames Crossing.


* BTEC or higher in Engineering
* Desirable to be Chartered or working towards Chartership.

Essential Experience:

* Appropriate previous experience of working in design and implementation of urban highway, transport and public realm schemes, including cycle schemes, bus priority projects, high street improvements, signalised junctions and road safety schemes
* Development of scheme designs from concept through detailed design to construction design
* Preparation of drawing suitable for public consultation
* Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and AutoTrack
* An understanding of the construction of 3D design of ground models
* Experience of 3D design using AutoCAD Civils 3D (or MX)
* Sign design using AutoSign or equivalent
* Experience of drainage design
* Production of full detailed design drawing packages
* Experience in managing work packages within a project
* Experience of liaising with clients in the development of scheme design
* Preparation of Rough Order of Magnitude costs and detailed Bills of Quantities
* Willingness to be part of a team and assist projects as and when necessary and work on own initiative
* Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with clients and key stakeholders
* Willingness to travel to projects across the UK when required
* Working knowledge of CDM regulations
* Mentoring and development of Graduates and Technicians

Desirable Experience:

* Site supervision
* Design of temporary traffic management during construction
* Appreciation of junction modelling and GIS packages
* Management of other staff members including Engineers, Transport Planners, Graduates and Technicians
* ProjectWise / BIM Standards
* A strong commercial focus
* Full driving licence

The role will include the following responsibilities:

* Provide inputs to multi-disciplinary urban highway, transport and public realm schemes, including cycle schemes, bus priority projects, high street improvements, signalised junctions and road safety schemes
* Manage work packages within a project
* Preparation of technical drawings relating to the project as required in line with company and client requirements as well as national standards and codes of practice. This is to cover the full suite of drawings at each stage of design from concept through to detailed design
* Preparation of Rough Order of Magnitude and detailed Bills of Quantities
* Working in collaboration with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design
* Liaising with the Project Director / Manager and the client to keep informed of all developments associated with the project
* Meeting with clients and stakeholders as well as working with other disciplines and consultants on projects
* Assisting in the resolution of complex technical issues
* Ensure that projects are completed to client specifications, to budgets and deadlines
* Presenting lessons learned and best practice to peers and wider professional audience
* Delivery of high quality of outputs and proactive promotion of appropriate quality standards
* Becoming familiar with, and compliant with, relevant H & S regulations and to promote a culture of awareness within the team
* Provide leadership and act as mentor to junior members of staff
* Act as technical lead and key point of contact for projects within the company as required
