The Company

Our client uses expertise in mathematical modelling to bring fresh thinking and new solutions to the challenges faced by our clients. They are at the forefront of the industrial and business applications of mathematics, with key client relationships in algorithm design, risk modelling, optimisation and data analytics.

The Role

Our client is currently looking to expand its diverse and dynamic team, in response to opportunities to grow the use of mathematical sciences in industry and government.

We would be keen to speak with candidates with the following skills and experience:

- Candidates with a strong record in scientific research, including a higher degree, excellent communication skills and an outstanding academic record in mathematics or statistics. We are looking for people who can rapidly assimilate and develop new ideas, and so the strength of mathematical background is more important to us than the area of specialism. We are interested to hear from people with experience of coding in a range of programming languages, including those we use most frequently, namely Python and R.

- Successful applicants will have experience of applying mathematical techniques to business challenges and must be excited by the prospect of helping the Institute to expand its activities, by building new client relationships and growing their skills in business development.

- Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate a potential to work alongside current staff, both as part of project teams and in identifying and developing new business opportunities.

- Successful applicants must be able to develop and apply new techniques, and those with a more extensive track record must demonstrate an ability to take the initiative in planning, instigating and executing new activity.

- Successful applicants must be able to thrive is a distributed working environment and operate effectively in teams that carry out much of their work without being physically co-located. Our expectations are for significant amounts of working from home.

- We provide career development opportunities in technical leadership, business development and project management. Members of our Scientific Board provide mentoring to all technical staff.

- Applications for Mathematical Internships will be considered for candidates with less experience, and those that are part-way through a research degree if they are able to intercalate for 3-6 months. Approval for intercalation must be granted by the candidate's home institution and applications must state potential start dates.
