As an Assistant Transport Manager, your role will focus on assisting the Transport & Plant Manager and through experience and competencies cover for him in his absence, assisting with the interaction between the Traffic Office team and LGV drivers. Operating over 69 dedicated waste collection vehicles throughout the region, treating and recycling waste, we provide a multitude of services including earth movement, skip and roll-on roll-off (RORO) containers, recycled aggregates and ready mixed concrete.

The Role

As an Assistant Transport Manager for L&S Waste Management you will implement your professional experience and skills to assist the Transport & Plant Manager and provide cover in his absence. You will develop the effectiveness of the transport team operation through activities such as assisting with the management of driver trainers, and development of new and existing drivers across all the L&S sites. To ensure the company maintains its good repute you will coach and mentor the traffic office team and drivers, assisting with any issues that arise. You will observe and record drivers’ hours and tachographs ensuring compliance with company policies, accreditations such as FORS, Risk Assessments and Control Procedures, check vehicles are fit and serviceable and ensure driver training documentation is complete and kept up to date.

Other duties include:


Promote health and safety awareness
Undertake new driver inductions, assessments and issue Driver Induction Packs
Assist with LGV Driver probation reviews, conduct and discipline
Drive performance reviews and continuous improvement of all drivers
Review and analyse the data from drivers’ digital tachographs
Update and monitor fuel usage and efficiency
Distribute weekly and monthly Scania fleet monitoring reports


You will be required to work hours between 7:00am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings when becomes necessary.

Hold a CPC in Road Haulage
Some knowledge of FORS, FORS training and health & safety legislation
Reliable and committed individual
Excellent communication skills
Interpersonal individual
Strong organisational skills with the ability to multi-task and work to own initiative
Positive, motivated and pro-active attitude
Sound knowledge and understanding of driver’s hours, WTD and tachographs
Ability to influence drivers and maintain L&S’s high standards in busy and fast-paced environments
