WORKING HOURS: Full Time – 37 hours per week – Must have a flexible approach to working hours as some evening and weekend work may be necessary.

THE COMPANY: An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Campbell Park Parish Council in Milton Keynes.
Serving over 15,000 residents, across 5 residential estates and 2 leisure/employment areas close to the centre of Milton Keynes, the Parish Council is committed to enhancing the environment and delivering local services in order to maximise resident’s well-being and quality of life.
The Parish Council has taken on a number of different services and facilities in recent years and is currently adapting to new challenges and opportunities created by the devolvement of services from the local Unitary Authority.
THE ROLE: We now require an experienced and suitably qualified Landscape Manager to establish and drive forward the delivery of a devolved landscape service. The core purpose of the role will be to manage and improve the provision, maintenance and development of the public open space within the boundaries of Campbell Park Parish Council (CPPC). You’ll also oversee contracts from third parties for associated works
Key responsibilities for the Landscape Manager position:

- Responsible for designing a schedule of works for the horticultural needs of the Parish area
- To monitor, update and approve expenditure and work within agreed budgets and committee approvals.
- To assist the Clerk to Council / RFO with budget monitoring and forward planning.
- To monitor the use of consumable items and spares and make arrangements for their replenishment.
- To ensure all vehicles, plant and equipment used are regularly maintained in accordance with routine operating requirements, including the completion of records.
- To monitor facilities, plant and equipment to ensure safe working practises and compliance with health and safety regulations, and to maintain the correct reporting/maintenance system.
- To provide a safe working environment for staff and secure materials and equipment
- To manage and motivate staff ensuring they are adequately briefed and trained. Responsible for staff appraisals.
- To maintain excellent relations with the general public whilst identifying areas of specific community engagement opportunities to enhance the service.
- To oversee the work of contractors to ensure their work is carried out in a correct, safe and timely manner and to a satisfactory standard.
- To write and present reports to the Council and other organisations as required
- To liaise and support colleagues and partners with projects, initiatives and events as necessary
- To attend supervision sessions and staff meetings
- To undertake training and personal development as necessary
- To lead on Health and Safety within the landscape team, ensuring policy, procedure and relevant training is in place, that information is shared with officers and members and to monitor compliance across WCC.
- Any other tasks that may be reasonably required in pursuit of Council objectives

THE CANDIDATE: The ideal applicant will be highly committed, enthusiastic and self-motivated. You’ll bring a flexible, pro-active approach to tasks and be able to prioritise and manage time and your work load effectively. The successful Landscape Manager will be a skilled communicator in both the written and oral form. Practical experience of appropriate tools and machinery and their safe operations and excellent knowledge of landscape and grass cutting operations and standards are required to be considered for this role.

The Parish Council is looking for someone who has the ability to lead and manage a small team of staff on a day to day basis with a willingness to undertake further training to improve knowledge and skills.

Key requirements for the Landscape Manager position based in Milton Keynes:

- Must live within a commutable distance of Milton Keynes
- Current full driving licence (ideally trailer qualified)
- Appropriate landscape qualification/s
- Current certificates of competence for pesticide application
- Hold or be prepared to study for IOSH qualifications

- Previous management experience
- Knowledge of Health & Safety policies and procedures
- PC literate, including Microsoft office Suite


- Knowledge of operational management
- Knowledge and understanding of issues concerning work with disadvantaged and diverse communities
- First Aid

- Manual handling
- Play area inspection
- A good sense of humour
