An exciting vacancy has arisen for a Civil Engineering Specialist based in the Projects team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the civil construction works on substation construction projects at 132kV and 33kV. The works include switch room and plinth construction and modification. The role includes Contract, Programme and Financial management. In addition you will be responsible the on-going maintenance and repair of existing substations and for providing specialist civil engineering services to other teams as required.

* It is anticipated that the starting salary will be £38,392 until the successful candidate achieves the required competencies.

Main responsibilitiesInclude:


Installation and commissioning of specialist non-standard equipment on the underground and overhead networks.
Location of complex cable faults.
Development in the use of fault location and simple protection testing equipment.
Advise own and other team members on innovations in electricity network management and   automation.
Identify training needs of own and other teams members and provide training as necessary on automation.
Liaise with other cable and protection specialists within the Company.
Train appropriate staff on the operational aspects of automatic systems.
Keep abreast of cable, protection and automation system developments.
Carry out network operations including the issue of safety documents up to 66kV.
Issue planned shutdown notices, make appointments with customers.
Alter own short term programme to meet changes in circumstances, within constraints.
Assess the potential impact of a specific work activity on customers.

Ideal candidateYou will have experience in building maintenance and construction and have an HNC in  Civil Engineering or Building or equivalent. You will be required to visit other sites in the  area and therefore a UK driving licence is essential.  You will manage a portfolio of  projects in the Northamptonshire/ Leicestershire area.

Ideally you will have experience in working on civil projects within the utilities industry.
