HMP Forest Bank are currently recruiting for a Recovery Worker to provide recovery and abstinence focused interventions to those in custody and in the community.  You will carry a caseload of clients in custody and in the community, ensure continuity of care and provide through care support into community treatment services and wrap around services.

We deliver the total operation of five prisons within the UK and own six Community Rehabilitation Companies in partnership with crime reduction charity Nacro.

HMP Forest Bank serves the courts of Greater Manchester and maintains strong links to the local community with a focus on resettlement. We aim to deliver quality of life services and support people to change their lives for the better.

Opportunities for learning and developing work-ready skills are on offer for all who come in to custody, but our commitment to reducing reoffending in local communities does not end at the prison gate. We support people released from custody through innovative partnerships in substance misuse services in Bury and Oldham, working with people to maintain recovery and lead law-abiding lives.

As well as the 16 residential units on site, there is a healthcare centre, gym, library, workshop complex, visits hall, chaplaincy and kitchen. The prison’s capacity stands at 1,460, holding adult men both on remand or sentenced and young prisoners between the ages of 18-21 years.

37.5 hours per week on a 6 months fixed term contract
Main responsibilities
Provide and facilitate psychosocial interventions in the form of one to one and group sessions.
Complete comprehensive/ risk assessments in order to develop individualised care plans to meet needs and manage risk.
Provide advice, information and support with the aim of reducing harm to self and others e.g. reduce the risk of overdose, spread of communicable diseases and lapse/relapse.
Encourage substance users to engage with the Recovery Pathway and embrace the recovery agenda and to build on their recovery capital.
Provide effective communication with services within the prison and partner agencies in the community using the appropriate referral pathways e.g. Housing, Probation/CRC and Police.
Respond to safeguarding issues that may arise for both adults and children.
Use anti-discriminatory practice across all areas and treat residents/service users fairly, humanely and with empathy.  Challenge discrimination appropriately.
Maintain a high standard of written and electronic case note records to meet the standards of the Care Quality Commission and to meet all audit standards. Record keeping should be accurate, appropriate and timely.
Ensure all correspondence is processed professionally and appropriately.
Ensure electronic based systems are updated accordingly.

Ideal candidate
Professional experience in working with vulnerable adults and/or children.
Have a genuine interest in the substance misuse field and the ability to promote, motivate and encourage change.
A good level of numeracy and literacy.
Good interpersonal skills, a team player and have an empathic approach.
Good planning, time management and organisational skills.
