Senior Care Assistant - Whitehead

Salary: £9.53ph - 42hrs night duty position worked over a two week period ie: 3 x 12hr shifts - wk 1 / 4 x 12hr shifts wk 2.
NVQ Level 3 in Adult Health & Social Care or equivalent desirable however we will consider applicants that are currently working towards this qualification

Responsible to: Nurse Manager (reports to the Nurse in Charge)
Overall Purpose: As part of the caring team, the main aim is support the nurse in charge and to act as supervisor and a role model to other Care Assistants. The other main purpose is to help create and maintain a healthy and safe environment where the personal nursing needs of the Residents are met under the direction and supervision of the Nurse in Charge

Principal elements of the job:


Provision of Care in accordance with agreed Care Plans by liasing closely with the nursing staff, ensuring they are updated re the Care Plans and recording the care delivered accurately and in accordance with company procedure.
Administer medications to residential clients under the supervision of nursing staff (Home Specific)
Nutritional Intake
Prevention of Pressure Sores
Mouth Care as directed by the Nurse
Management of Continence and Incontinence
Repositioning Residents as directed by the Nurse in Charge in accordance with Manual Handling Requirements
Assisting Residents with mobility
Assisting with Personal Hygiene - shaving, grooming etc
Assisting in the bathing of residents in bed or in the bathroom

Ensure bedrooms and communal areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene and that wardrobes and drawers are kept tidy

Liaise with the relatives regarding residents as necessary, remembering that the nurse is the only person permitted to discuss the resident's general condition with relatives

Ensure all evaluation sheets are filled in daily ie: regarding
fluid intake, skin care, toileting regimes, general duties etc.
Carry out preliminary ops for residents ie: BP, weight, BM etc
Carry out Audits as per the Managers Report when requested to do so


Participate fully in the induction of new staff - ie: orientation, company policies, ensuring completion of induction training with signed programme being presented to the Home Manager for approval.
Supervise care delivery - ensure Care Assistants report back at all times to the Nurse In Charge

Direct the general routine of the Care Assistants in collaboration with the Nurse in Charge to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the Home.

Be aware of the vulnerability of the residents and contribute to their protection from physical, sexual, emotional and financial abuse
Promote the residents living and social skills. Encourage their involvement in recreational and social activities and participate in these activities

Listen, talk to and support residents
Undertake cleaning duties as required
Act as a key worker for a number of residents
Actively participate in the ordering of stock ie: food/cleaning materials etc
Ensure all maintenance work is reported and recorded in line with the Home's policy.
Actively participate as a member of the sales team introducing/promoting the home with confidence to prospective residents.

Actively play a role in promoting high standard in respect of: -
Cleanliness throughout the home and its grounds
