Highways Engineer

I am currently recruiting for a Highways Engineer in Bristol.

The Highways Engineer will join a client’s busy team responsible for providing expert input to the design development of highways scheme ranging from minor Traffic Management schemes such as waiting restrictions to major Infrastructure schemes such as road widening for bus lanes.

The duties of Highways Engineer
�Design major highways and junction improvement schemes including drainage design.
�Prepare Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) drawings and associated traffic sign drawings in accordance with national and council standards;
�Liaise with in-house teams as part of the design process to obtain designs for street furniture such as street lighting and traffic signals;
�Liaise with Statutory Undertakers to obtain and arrange diversion/protection of utility apparatus.
�Prepare construction information, including relevant Health and Safety documents in accordance with the CDM Regulations in order for works to be implemented by our in-house contractor;

Essential skills of the Highways Engineer
�Educated to degree standard or equivalent and achieved or working towards a professional qualification in an appropriate discipline;
�You will have excellent customer service skills and a strong customer focus in your ability to deal with internal and external stakeholders;
�You will have a good knowledge of the relevant sections of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges;
�You will have a thorough knowledge of the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions;
�You will have a good knowledge of the relevant Health and Safety legislation including the CDM Regulations.
�You will have good attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate, error free work.
�You will have previous experience of delegating tasks and supervising junior technicians and graduates.
�You should hold a full and current driving licence and have your own transport to enable you to visit sites around South Gloucestershire.

Desirable skills of Highways Engineer
�The ability to prepare highway alignments using MX or Civils3D design software.
�The ability to prepare drainage designs using Microdrainage.
�The ability to use AutoCAD, AutoTRACK, Keysigns, Keypost, Keylines and other signpost manufacturer software.
