Port Agent

Location: Grimsby, travel to Bristol and Milford Haven as required

Salary: Depending on Experience

Hours of Work: Mon-Fri 9am-5pm, there is after hours and weekend coverage of ship visits, monitoring e-mails, and taking phone calls

About the Company:

Inchcape Shipping Services provides global strategic maritime, cargo and supply chain solutions to ship-owners and operators who span all geographies, market segments, vessels and asset types.

The role holder will be responsible for providing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on-call service to our Principals to ensure the safe and smooth turnaround of all appointed vessels within the jurisdiction of the port office, managing vessel requirements, booking relevant services and undertaking vessel boarding as required. The Port Agent will be required to issue all relevant shipping documentation and perform any other tasks that relate to the job.

This role covers port agency operations across the Humber, Tees and Mersey regions. Whilst the position is based in Grimsby to cover ports and terminals in the Humber, there is an expectation that the role holder will travel to the Tees and Mersey offices to understudy the Port Manager and cover operations for those areas as required.

Port Agent Responsibilities:

* Ensure excellent ships agency services are rendered to all customers
* Ensure a smooth, quick turnaround of vessels, keeping all relevant parties advised at all times
* Board vessels as/where required
* Ensure all items/requirements are promptly ordered/confirmed
* Liaise with clients and port services on a daily basis
* Attend regular meetings with ports, terminal and suppliers
* Ensure all shipping documentation is issued on time and accurately
* Full utilisation of YourISS 2.0 (the Company's Operating System) as per ISS Standard Operating Procedures
* Ensure data integrity for all vessel files and record all subsequent information into ISS internal systems
* Ensure compliance with ISS LRQA (Lloyds Register Quality Assurance) and/or customer specific standard
* Ensure all procedural Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) are met
* Policies, Procedures & Processes
* Follow internal and external procedures ensuring compliance both with ISS standards, customer standards and legal requirements
* Suggest improvements to existing processes and where appropriate create new processes to ensure operational effectiveness

Port Agent Requirements:

* A working knowledge of Port Operations
* Experience of working in a similar role in the shipping/maritime industry
* ICS qualified (Desirable)
* GCSE educated or equivalent
* Eligibility to work in the UK
* Valid driving license
* After Hours coverage of ship visits, monitoring e-mails, and taking phone calls
* Strong communicator both written and verbal
* Ability to work under pressure and to strict timelines
* Competent user of the Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Excel and Word
