1st Line Support Engineer

Location : Manchester

Salary : �22,000 - �24,000, 12 Months FTC

The I.T Support Engineer provides effective IT assistance across all aspects of the business. Carries out systems support and administration tasks in a Windows Server based environment, building, managing, installing and supporting PCs, laptops, peripherals and software and providing desktop support to users. Assists in the scoping and delivery of I.T related projects.

Duties for the 1 st Line support Engineer role:

Hardware & Software Support

- Setup, maintain and support company hardware and software and ensure the company networks are functioning properly and available for intended use.

- Specify desktop/laptop standards and provide build images for company workstations

Basic Systems Administration

- Administers users on the network: assigning application access, ensuring security and maintaining configurations using Active directory and Exchange within company standards.

- Assists with anti-virus, anti-spam and web filter systems

- Assists with backup, recovery and security, ensuring procedures are set up and performed as necessary

End User Support

- Undertakes or assigns IT tickets from the IT support system and monitor the progress to resolution.

- Provides technical support to network users. Ensures any issues are resolved in a timely manner or escalated where necessary


- Allocates and tracks company equipment to employees

- Manages hardware servicing and repairs

- Gathers estimates and order hardware and software supplies as requested

- Develops, maintains and updates a library of technical documentation

- Manages IT asset register

Education, work experience and skills required for the 1 st Line Support Engineer role:

- Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent or a recognised IT qualification (preferably Microsoft or CompTIA)

- Previous experience working as an IT Support Engineer

- Experience of Microsoft Exchange and Active Directory

- Working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, Office applications and PC hardware

- A strong understanding of IT networking terminology

- An interest in, and knowledge of Apple Macintosh operating systems desirable

- A knowledge of tablet and mobile phone devices desirable

Responsibilities for the 1 st Line Support Engineer role:


- Maintains an adequate level of knowledge of operating systems and application software within the company in order to provide a high level of user support


- Participates in team meetings, providing constructive input and suggestions Interpersonal Liaison

- Internal liaison with other team members, Nucleus Central departments and agency colleagues, as required ensuring efficient information flow and delivery of assigned projects

Managerial Responsibilities

- No direct line reports

- Reports to I.T Systems Manager or I.T Systems & Global Project Manager

- Is aware of own work capacity and proactively communicates capacity to line manager and other team members as appropriate

- Ensures manager and team members are aware of planned absence (e.g. holidays, time off in lieu) and that appropriate approvals are granted

- Informs assigned manager promptly of time off due to illness or unscheduled absence, completes and obtains sign off of appropriate absence notifica
