Communications is a centre of excellence, driving value for money and ensuring that marketing and communication support for directorate and Council wide priorities. The service is structured into two areas, Content and Strategy and Operations and Commercial.

We are seeking to recruit an experienced Communications Manager specialising in the effective and strategic management of the Manchester City Council website.

You must be passionate about all things digital and have a proven track record in managing a website and where the needs of the user are at the forefront.

You will:

- be responsible for the management of one of the Communications Service's core teams, so must have experience of performance management and workforce development.
- take responsibility for the development of the council's website as a leading user-focused public sector site acting as an ambassador for our web principles.
- develop strategies and activity to support the development of the site based on user insight and engagement, the latest best practice, and ensure the quality of web content through effective line management and engagement with services across the organisation.
- act as a specialist advisor to services on best practice web content and the development of online services - working closely with colleagues from customer services and ICT.
- work on the development of a new intranet.

You must be able to write and edit web copy, forms, develop surveys and must have the ability to analyse analytical data from a variety of sources and pull together to inform decision making.

You must also have the ability to manage CMS, including working with external developers and authors across the council to ensure all content meets the needs of the Council and it's services.

This is part of the City Council's Corporate Communications function at Manchester City Council.

You will strategically lead the delivery of effective communications to promote the Council and its priorities across digital channels and products.

This role will:

- hold line management responsibility for Senior Communications Officers within the digital team.
- support Communications Business Partners to deliver priority campaigns, with a particular expertise in digital communications.
- ensure the effective delivery and evaluation of digital communications activity, project managing communication campaigns and activities - ensuring delivery to agreed communications strategy and within agreed budget / resource constraints.

This role is to lead the strategic vision for the Council's website. The role must ensure that legislation is adhered to across the site and also ensure the content of the website is well-structured, task based, accessible and easy to find so that it meets the needs of its users.
