JOB TITLE: Area Business Manager / Prisoner Custody Officer Area Manager

WORKING HOURS: Full Time Monday to Friday 40 hours per week – will require travel and occasional overnight stays/flexibility (expenses covered)

THE COMPANY: Are you an experienced business and people manager, with commercial experience working to cost and profit targets?

Our client are a well respected prisoner transportation company who provide the safe and secure transportation and custody suite services for prisoners and young people in custody across England, Scotland and Wales and our now looking for a new Area Business Manager / Prisoner Custody Officer Area Manager to join their existing team where you will cover the Woking Vehicle Base as well as Guildford and Staines courts. 

THE ROLE: As a Area Business Manager / Prisoner Custody Officer Area Manager you will be responsible for the profitable delivery of a £multi-million devolved profit and loss business area, within service and contract requirements, to deliver overall profitability and service for the Region and company. You will manage the overall operation of your area to meet profit targets within a £4million devolved P&L account and will also manage, motivate and lead a geographically diverse employee group within the area to maximise their performance and productivity at all times. 

As the Area Business Manager / Prisoner Custody Officer Area Manager you will understand key profit drivers, and direct all efforts to ensuring a profitable return from the Area and will achieve service standards as stipulated in to contracts. 

This would suit an experienced Business Manager with commercial/budgeting knowledge who ideally also has experience in a similar industry such as Armed Forces, Public Services, Health & Social care, but is not essential as you will receive through training and support from existing Area Business Manager / Prisoner Custody Officer Area Managers covering the area. 

Key Duties for the Area Business Manager / Prisoner Custody Officer Area Manager role: -

Understand the operation, the planning process and all other business system processes and ensure consistent application of company SOP’s across the Area
Ensure all employees working in your area of responsibility are fully aware of company policies, procedures and contractual requirements and conduct staff reviews and PDR's 
Develop and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders including MOJ, Court employees, Prison staff and Governors in order to influence them positively towards supporting the groups objectives
Lead and manage and inform staff of challenges of the business in a clear way, to enable understanding of all employees of the contribution that they can make
Support and guide employees during development activities, look for opportunities to bring through high performing PCO’s and SCO’s through extra activities or assignment of projects or responsibilities
Create a climate of participation, trust and respect and encourage the team to constantly strive for higher standards
Evaluate and monitors the delivery of services to maintain health & safety of employees, those in our care and other agencies at our locations
Achieve targets ensuring continuous improvements, all the time keeping this in line with profit requirements

THE CANDIDATE: The successful Area Business Manager / Prisoner Custody Officer Area Manager will need general business unit management experience within cost and profit targets and will need to have Commercial experience and an understanding of contracts and operating within that to achieve profitability. You will need to have previous people management experience within a unionised business, be able to operate effectively in a multi-site environment, and will be a proven influencer with the ability to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders. It is also essential candidates are highly self motivated and confident in challenging the status-quo to positively influence and support achievement of business objectives. In addition candidates will need to have good IT skills, be highly organised and dedicated and will need to hold a valid Driving Licence as will be required to travel between
multiple sites in the Surrey and Woking areas. 

Key Experience/ Characteristics preferred for the role: -

Commercial business experience & general business unit management experience with cost and profit targets
People management experience within a unionised business essential 
Able to travel operate effectively in a multi-site environment
Valid Driving Licence essential 
Ability to communicate effectively and think ahead, plan work and meet deadlines
Must be a proven leader, motivator and influencer 
Must be highly self organised, motivated and have good Health & Safety / Risk Assessment knowledge 
Capable of working under tight deadlines in a fast paced, environment is essential 

Due to the nature of this role and working with young offenders, you will under go security clearance to enhanced CRB and MoJ enhanced check status,and possibly required to enter into MoD vetting additionally.
