Financial Controller

Salary: £34,788 – £37,849 (hours and working patterns negotiable)

Sheffield South East Trust was formed in 2016 and unites five Sheffield schools. The schools within the Trust work closely together for the benefit of the children and communities they serve. We are likely to grow in the near future and this role and responsibilities will grow with the Trust. The role will therefore attract an increasing salary when the Trust grows and acquires more schools.
This exciting opportunity offers candidates the chance to apply their accounting knowledge to support the Trust with its corporate responsibilities of being a registered company; exempt charity; and most importantly as an educator of children.
We are looking for a driven and experienced finance professional to support Trust development and to continue to build key relationships with a range of stakeholders including Trustees; School Leaders, School Business Managers and external agencies.
Key responsibilities: ensuring all regulatory requirements are met, budgeting and forecasting, preparation of annual accounts, and internal control arrangements
The Key Tasks making up the role are:

- To provide leadership and professional financial management for the Trust.
- Deliver comprehensive financial planning, ensure robust financial systems and controls to safeguard finances, and ensure efficiency and value for money.
- Manage and develop the central finance services across the Trust.
- Ensure compliance with the Academies Financial Handbook, School Funding Agreement and Trust Financial Procedures.
- Play a key role in the governance, development and implementation of Multi-Academy Trust strategies and projects, including supporting the growth of the Trust.
- Regular reporting to the Board of Trustees on the financial health including financial monitoring; cash flow forecasts and balance sheet.
- Submit grant and other funding bids to the Department for Education

The Key Requirements are:

- Recognised and suitable accounting qualification e.g. CCAB, AAT certified
- Significant experience of finance/accounting functions.
- Ability to think strategically.
- Ability to communicate financial terms to non-financial specialists and explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
- An effective team player, who values collaboration and working with others.
- Knowledge of external reporting requirements, Education and Skills Funding Agency, HMRC, Companies House.
