You will be responsible for organising, managing the daily operation of the Sample Reception team, ensuring the effective day-to-day operation of the department and making sure that service levels are met.

Provide strategic vision for any updates or changes to the working environment, process and staffing in line with expansion and/or changes in client needs.

To maintain the highest professional and technical standards in the department. To perform that work to which you are assigned, ensuring that it meets all standards as required by accreditation bodies. To adhere closely to SOPs and to assist in putting these methods into practice and adhering to associated quality assurance procedures.

To participate in department shifts – including early and late cover, night duties and weekends as required.

Other responsibilities;

* To undertake work as you are assigned in compliance with current CPA/UKAS accreditation
* To be familiar with the laboratory computer systems, including confident use of the test/client libraries
* To work within and supervise the processes of sample receipt, booking, scanning of samples and forms so that trouble shooting and request form booking.
* To troubleshoot queries from clients and from requests to ensure correct samples/tests are requested.
* To operate, maintain and troubleshoot various pieces of laboratory equipment within the department, and to ensure all items are correctly functioning and quality controlled at all times.
* To manage bench rotas for staff members within a designated section of the laboratory and ensure that staff are deployed efficiently and effectively.
* To assist in the selection, recruitment and induction of staff.
* To actively strive towards process improvement for the department, laboratory and staff.
* To ensure that the sample reception team is technically trained to agreed standards, and progress training for these individuals in conjunction with the Training Officer.
* To ensure that staffing levels are adequate for maximum effective daily operation and encourage, support and motivate staff to deliver agreed service levels.
* To regularly review the performance of staff within a designated section and conduct annual joint reviews with the HoD as directed.

What I'm looking for;

* Experience as a manager within health care or laboratory.
* Experience recruiting, managing and training staff.
* Happy to liaise with clients and external service users appropriately
