Teaching Personnel are currently working alongside a Secondary school in Middlesbrough to recruit a passionate, driven Classroom Assistant to work closely with students experiencing Special Educational Needs (SEN). The successful candidate is to work on a full time basis, commencing September 2019.

As a SEMH teaching assistant you will be working with children and young people in Key Sates 3 and 4. The successful candidate will be passionate, driven and ready to work alongside students that may sometimes experience challenging behaviour and seem unengaged in the classroom and learning. Your role will be to support the children with their individual learning needs, often working on a 1:1 basis.

You will be working with children and young people who display challenging behaviour such as:

- Anxiety

- Exclusion

- Speech and language difficulties

- A disengagement with the classroom and learning

- Withdrawn attitudes

- Frustrated, angry and aggressive tempers

- Truancy

Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate must have some experience working with children and young people who have demonstrated difficult behaviours and SEND. As well as this, de-escalation training would be advantageous and the school would also consider a candidate with youth work backgrounds, or similar roles.
