A special school in Bradford are seeking a Special Needs Teaching Assistant on a full time basis. This is a long term opportunity, until July 2020 in the first instance. However, there may be an opportunity to apply for a permanent role in school.

Our partner school is situated in the Heaton area of Bradford and caters for pupils aged 3-19 with a range of complex needs. The successful applicant will be required to work across school.

As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will work in partnership with class teachers to support identified groups and individual pupils to promote learning in line with the National Curriculum, codes of practice and school policies and procedures.

Duties and responsibilities:

* Work with individuals or small groups of children under the direction of teaching staff
* Implement planned learning activities/teaching programmes as agreed with the teacher, adjusting activities according to pupils' responses as appropriate
* Understand specific needs of pupils and provide differentiated support both individually and within a group
* Support learning by selecting appropriate resources/methods to facilitate agreed learning activities
* Establish positive relationships with pupils and staff
* Promote positive pupil behaviour in line with school policies and help embed positive learning behaviours
* Assist with the development and implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP)
* Assist the teacher and other staff in the implementation of care programmes - including the delivery of personal care
* Provide skilled support to pupils with severe learning, behavioural, communication, social, sensory or physical difficulties
* Attend to pupils' personal needs including help with social, welfare, care and health matters, including toileting, dressing, feeding, mobility etc.
* Liaise with staff and other relevant professionals and provide information about pupils as appropriate
* Assist with escorting pupils on educational visits
* Attend relevant training and take responsibility for own development
* Attend relevant school meetings as required
* Respect confidentiality at all times
* Take an active role in the preparation, maintenance of resources and control of stocks of materials and resources within the classroom

We are seeking a Teaching Assistant who has experience of working with individuals with additional needs and who is able to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to group thinking, planning etc. You will have good literacy and numeracy skills (minimum GCSE A*-C or equivalent), and be an effective communicator, as your role will involve liaison with a multi-disciplinary team.

Additional training in Team Teach, PECS, Makaton and/or Intensive Interaction is desirable but not essential. We also welcome applications from graduates in subjects such as Psychology, Social or Sports Sciences, Youth Work and/or Education Studies who may be seeking a long term career in Special Needs Education.
